Cunning Fox Demons

2/14/2026

"Are you coming again?" Evan Yang asked.

"Damn human, so what if you're strong? I want to see how you'll withstand our wolf horde." One of the wolf demons shouted. As soon as he finished, the sound of wolves echoed all around.

Evan Yang and Lora Luo naturally heard the noise. Spreading their divine sense, they saw that a dense mass had gathered around them.

These were not just anything—they were packs of wolf-shaped spirit beasts, all obeying the orders of the three wolf demons before them, now surrounding the temple.

"You think these can keep us here?" Evan Yang laughed.

"Try it and you'll see," the wolf demon sneered.

With that, a pack of wolves charged straight at Evan Yang and Lora Luo. Evan told Lora to stay close to him and not let the wolves hurt her. Although he didn't know the wolves' exact strength, he couldn't afford to be careless.

The wolf packs rushed forward, spitting waves of qi from their mouths like flying blades, forcing Evan and Lora back.

Evan immediately formed a defensive barrier to protect them both, but there were simply too many wolves. He couldn't hold out for long, and these packs were all quite strong.

Faced with this, Evan unleashed his flames, directly destroying the wolves at the front of the pack.

Seeing a pack destroyed, the leading wolf demon roared angrily, "Damn human! You dare slaughter my wolves—you're dead!"

"You brought this on yourselves," Evan Yang replied with a cold snort.

"Damn it, keep attacking!" the wolf demon said furiously. Then wave after wave of wolves surged forward, piling onto Evan and Lora as if they feared nothing.

Evan knew that if this kept up, even his flames wouldn't last—the wolves were just too many. It felt like the whole temple was surrounded by wolf packs.

Faced with this situation, Evan sent a voice transmission to Lora Luo: "I'll clear a path in a moment. Stay close to me and don't get separated."

"Okay." Lora knew how dangerous things were right now and stopped arguing with Evan, answering directly.

With Lora's response, Evan picked a direction, concentrated his flames to attack there, and used his qi to clear the corpses ahead.

The wolf demons behind him saw this and shouted angrily, "Chase them!"

Evan ignored how fierce things were behind him. He focused on opening a path ahead, while the wolves and corpses blocked the road for the wolf demons chasing them.

Originally, Evan planned to escape by air, but he found that these wolves could attack from a distance, spraying upwards, so he chose to travel on land instead.

After fighting and running for a full day and night, Evan Yang finally broke out of the wolf pack’s encirclement, gradually shaking them off. But before long, the wolves appeared again. Realizing this couldn’t go on, Evan turned to Lora Luo and said, “Hold on to me.”

"What for?" Lora asked, confused.

"Trust me. Just hold on tight," Evan said.

Lora thought for a moment, then grabbed Evan’s arm with one hand. Evan cast a spell and instantly escaped underground.

They vanished from the wolves’ sight in a flash. Lora was stunned—she’d always thought Evan only cultivated fire, but now realized he also commanded earth arts.

Once underground, Evan felt safe. Now he just needed to find a path forward and avoid getting trapped by the wolves again.

Meanwhile, the three wolf demons received word from the packs. After Evan and Lora vanished, the trio were furious.

“Damn it! They slaughtered tens of thousands of my wolves. I’m going to report this to the Wolf King!” one wolf demon roared.

The other two wolf demons were equally enraged. The three flashed away from the pack, while the wolves received orders and returned to their dens.

In a dense forest riddled with rocks and caves, a group of wolf demons lived. All of them had taken humanoid form, their strength rivaling Xuan-Immortal and above in the Immortal Realm.

The place, usually quiet, grew lively with the arrival of the three wolf demons.

One wolf demon headed for a mountain cave, while the other two relayed what had happened to the rest.

In the cave lived the Wolf King, ruler of this region. Among demons, strength decides rank, so each territory usually has one king. Here, the Wolf King’s power matched that of an Emperor-Realm cultivator.

The Wolf King was resting in the cave when a wolf demon rushed in and called, “Your Majesty!”

“What is it?” The Wolf King opened his eyes, curious that his routine had been interrupted.

“Just now, two humans slaughtered tens of thousands of my wolves,” the wolf demon said angrily.

The Wolf King frowned. This was the last thing he wanted to hear—humans killing their kin, and tens of thousands at that. That was unacceptable.

He growled, “Damn it! Who are these people?”

The wolf demon showed the Wolf King an image of the intruders and a recount of the battle. The Wolf King stood up and snorted coldly, “Summon the sixteen chieftains.”

The wolf demon hesitated for a moment—these sixteen chieftains were all Immortal-Lord level. Mobilizing them meant deploying the full strength of their tribe.

But at this point, they had no choice. Evan and Lora had already escaped.

Soon after, sixteen wolf demon chieftains arrived. The Wolf King explained what had happened, and every chieftain was furious.

“Now you all know the situation. Spread the word, search for their whereabouts, and capture them with full force if you find anything,” the Wolf King ordered.

The chieftains nodded and left to mobilize their forces. Each commanded hundreds of thousands of wolves; with sixteen chieftains, their packs blanketed the entire territory.

Whenever Evan and Lora surfaced, they’d spot wolf patrols searching for something. Evan had no choice but to keep moving underground. After several days and nights, they finally left the region and arrived at a lake.

“This lake is so strange,” Lora said, puzzled.

“This is the Demon-Beast Realm. Of course it’s different from the Immortal Realm,” Evan replied, seeing the lake’s dark waters.

Lora nodded, gazing up at the bizarre sky. She couldn’t understand why the heavens here looked so twisted.

Just as Evan finished speaking, something stirred nearby. He focused and saw several spirit beasts approaching in groups—their target was clearly Evan and Lora.

“This place is crawling with spirit beasts. We’d better find a way out soon, or we’ll end up as their food,” Evan sighed.

“But how do we get back?” Lora wondered aloud.

Evan shook his head helplessly. “Let’s try to capture a spirit beast that understands human speech first.”

“What are you planning?” Lora asked. Both had been stranded in the Demon-Beast Realm, so she had no reason to argue with Evan for now.

“Let’s go.” Evan could only look for high-intelligence spirit beasts, but there were none nearby.

Lora nodded and followed Evan, avoiding the sudden appearance of small spirit beasts.

After a while, they spotted two spirit beasts in the distance fighting over something.

“There we go,” Evan said, smiling as he saw the two spirit beasts.

“What’s your plan?” Lora asked, also noticing the two humanoid spirit beasts.

“Any beast that can take human form has high intelligence,” Evan said with a grin.

Lora nodded, asking Evan what to do next. Evan just observed quietly, waiting to see what would happen.

The two spirit beasts were highly alert and quickly noticed the two humans nearby.

"Humans! Let’s stop fighting for now—deal with them first, then settle our business," said one fox demon.

The other, also a fox demon, replied, "Agreed."

So the two fox demons approached Evan and Lora. One was female, the other male. The female fox demon smiled seductively, "Welcome to the Demon-Beast Realm. Would you like us to show you around?"

This kind of offer made Evan instantly suspicious—foxes were naturally cunning. He smiled, "Of course. We’re actually looking for a way out of the Demon-Beast Realm. Is there any method?"

The two fox demons paused. The female secretly transmitted, "Looks like they stumbled in by accident. Why not drain their power? The girl is mine, the boy is yours."

"No problem," the male fox demon replied.

The female fox demon smiled at Evan, "In that case, follow me—I’ll take you there."

Evan didn’t trust them, but wanted to see their scheme. He smiled, "Alright."

Lora sent Evan a voice transmission, "Do you really trust them? I feel like the female fox demon’s eyes are off."

"Don’t worry—just watch what I do," Evan replied by voice transmission.

Lora didn’t understand what Evan meant, but followed along. The fox demons were secretly delighted as they led the two humans forward, plotting how to deal with them.

Suddenly, the fox demons thought of a plan and grew excited. They led Evan and Lora through a forest to a row of boulders. The female fox demon said, "Behind these rocks is a path to the Human Realm. Go on through."

Evan checked with his senses but couldn’t see past the rocks, as if something blocked his divine sense. He smiled, "Thanks to both of you."

"You’re guests here—come again anytime," the female fox demon said with a smile. The male fox demon echoed, "Exactly."

Evan and Lora smiled and moved toward the rocks, but both stayed extremely alert—they couldn’t trust the fox demons.

After a moment, they reached the area behind the rocks and found themselves in thick black mist. Before they could react, Lora suddenly collapsed.

Evan checked Lora, confirming she’d been poisoned. He quickly used Heaven-Cold qi to detoxify her. Lora slowly woke up, "What happened to me?"

"You were poisoned. Looks like this place is toxic, especially the black mist," Evan said.

"What about them?" Lora asked, alarmed.

"Don’t panic—they’re about to come in. Let’s pretend to faint. Just hold my hand and you won’t be poisoned," Evan said.

"Why?" Lora didn’t understand why holding Evan’s hand would prevent poisoning.

"No time—just trust me," Evan said, grabbing Lora’s hand and pretending to faint. Lora followed suit.

Pretending to faint was easy for cultivators. Soon, the two fox demons appeared among the rocks.

Seeing Evan and Lora unconscious, the female fox demon smiled, "I told you—what a wonderful place this is."

"Exactly. This air benefits us demons, but it’s poisonous to humans," the male fox demon said.
