The True Power of the Treasure's Allure

12/2/2025

Maxwell Jing curled his lip and asked, "Who picked Leo Leaf in the first place?"

Ethan Gu raised an eyebrow. "Sect Master!"

Maxwell Jing scratched his head as the memory returned. Back then, he and Ethan Gu each chose four people, then selected another four from the eight. He had originally picked someone else, but the Sect Master insisted on Leo Leaf, so one of his picks was replaced. Thinking about it, Leo Leaf was indeed much more capable than that person. He had chosen the other simply because no one stood out; while that person was limited in ability, he was certainly loyal.

But the Sect Master chose Leo Leaf, making that person Leo Leaf's deputy. Looking back now, perhaps that person was placed there by the Sect Master all along, meant to watch over Leo Leaf. The Sect Master simply wanted to make use of Leo Leaf’s abilities. If she made no mistakes, the Sect Master would treat her well; but if she did, that person would report it immediately.

That person had been by Leo Leaf’s side for so many years, he must have learned quite a bit. If anything happened to Leo Leaf, he could seamlessly take over, and it wouldn’t hurt the Ghost Guild much.

If it had been someone else, they might have tried to undermine Leo Leaf for their own gain, but that person was honest and loyal, and would never do such a thing. So Damien Gray could rest easy!

Damien Gray’s approach was truly the most reasonable. He didn’t waste Leo Leaf’s talents, and he’d already prepared a countermeasure for any possible betrayal; the Ghost Guild’s interests wouldn’t suffer at all.

Maxwell Jing clapped his folding fan in admiration and exclaimed, "The Sect Master truly is the Sect Master—why am I only realizing this now?"

He had doubted Damien Gray’s decision at first, since the Four Hall Masters were crucial figures. If any of them betrayed the guild, it could be disastrous. He believed it was better to choose someone entirely loyal, rather than take such a risk for the sake of talent. But because he trusted Damien Gray, he chalked it up to his own paranoia—maybe Leo Leaf wasn’t so bad after all. Ethan Gu felt the same way, so he’d been torn. In the end, he could only conclude that Damien Gray must have had his reasons!

Only now did he finally understand—it was all for this!

At the sound of someone coughing, the two of them quickly pulled apart, trying to look nonchalant. In the next moment, they saw Morgan Shangguan, Damien Gray, Lily Ling, and Maurice Mo all standing there—four pairs of eyes staring right at them!

Maxwell Jing rolled his eyes and said, "Never seen anyone be affectionate before?" That was, of course, directed at Lily Ling.

He wouldn't dare provoke Damien or Morgan, and since Maurice Mo was from the Cloud Guild, Maxwell really didn't want Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild to fall out with each other. Otherwise, he and Ethan would be the ones suffering!

Lily Ling snapped back to herself and hurriedly said, "Left Guardian, Right Guardian, I'm on your side!" She then snorted at Maurice Mo.

Maurice Mo raised an eyebrow, a faint smile flickering in his eyes, though his tone remained distant. "They're from the Ghost Guild. You don't need to worry about me supporting them."

Lily Ling was taken aback, snorted heavily at him, then turned and walked away.

Ethan's eyes flashed, but he said nothing. Instead, he pulled Maxwell in and kissed him!

Maxwell couldn't help but roll his eyes. This was Cloud Guild territory, and there were plenty of people wandering around!

That's what he thought, but his hand didn't push Ethan away—instead, he held him tighter.

"Ahem..."

Watching the group leave, Maurice Mo suddenly wondered: if the Ghostmaster and the Guildmaster were this close, why did the Guildmaster keep causing trouble for the Ghost Guild? Was it jealousy? It could be—rumor had it the Ghost King doted on his Princess Consort.

Maxwell Jing rolled his eyes and said, "Never seen anyone be affectionate before?" That was, of course, directed at Chiling.

He wouldn't dare provoke Damien or Morgan, and since Mo Li was from the Cloud Guild, Maxwell really didn't want Ghost Guild and Cloud Guild to fall out with each other. Otherwise, he and Ethan would be the ones suffering!

Chiling snapped back to herself and hurriedly said, "Left Protector, Right Protector, I'm on your side!" She then snorted at Mo Li.

Mo Li raised an eyebrow, a faint smile flickering in his eyes, though his tone remained distant. "They're from the Ghost Guild. You don't need to worry about me supporting them."

Chiling was taken aback, snorted heavily at him, then turned and walked away.

She knew full well she couldn't go around gossiping about what she'd just seen.

Morgan Shangguan gave a soft laugh. "Mo Li, keep a closer eye on things in the Cloud Guild for me. I've been a bit busy lately." She was well aware that after sneaking out and getting caught, Damien would probably keep her grounded for quite some time.

Damien Gray curled his lips in satisfaction at her self-awareness.

Maxwell Jing couldn't help but twitch his lips. Busy? As far as he could remember, Morgan Shangguan had never actually been busy!

Watching the group leave, Mo Li suddenly wondered: if the Ghost Lord and the Guildmaster were this close, why did the Guildmaster keep causing trouble for the Ghost Guild? Was it jealousy? It could be—rumor had it the Ghost King doted on his consort.

He frowned, a hint of worry flickering in his eyes. After standing quietly for a moment, a cold gleam flashed through them—he'd already decided: if the Ghost King ever let the Guildmaster down, he and the others would raze the Ghost Guild to the ground!

When the four returned to the Ghost King's manor, they found Leo Leaf waiting outside the gate. As soon as Leo saw them, she hurried over, looking at Ethan Gu with pleading eyes. "Brother Ethan, can I stay? I promise I won't bother anyone!" As she spoke, she snuck a glance at Maxwell Jing.

Morgan Shangguan arched an eyebrow. Leo Leaf really was persistent!

Ethan Gu glanced at her and said, "It's not up to me whether you can stay or not."

Damien Gray couldn't be bothered with her. Since Leo Leaf didn't know anything, keeping her around would just be a nuisance. Without sparing her a glance, he wrapped an arm around Morgan Shangguan and walked inside.
