I fell into deep thought over everything Xu Fu had said. Xu Fu had already left; I was alone at home.

No matter the era, war is always the root of tragedy, because people are never the same.

"If I had lived in that era, what would I have become?"

I couldn't help but think of John Chou. For some reason, at this moment, I actually missed him a little—it's been a long time since I heard his voice.

John Chou lived in an era even earlier than Xu Fu, but in essence, things were much the same. Perhaps he was born into a much better situation than Xu Fu.

I opened the window and looked out at the bustling street below. Here, everyone gathered—whether from the world of the living or the world of the dead—were people who could never truly become human.

Many still wore ancient clothing, and the architecture of the city was unlike anything I'd seen before. People from all eras lived together in this world.

"Maybe it's not so bad after all."

I said this with a smile as the wind brushed against my face.

Setting aside the Emperor God's motives, this world might actually be a blessing for those who have been given a second chance at life.

These past few days, my mood has improved a lot. After meeting Rachel Lan, the knot in my heart finally loosened. As long as I can see her, there is still hope.

"I wonder how those guys are doing now."

Ever since James Grant was captured a few days ago, I haven't heard any news about Crimson Night, not even any trouble caused by them.

Lunchtime was approaching. I didn't know if Xu Fu would return, but it didn't matter—I could eat or not, and I wouldn't feel hungry. Maybe that's the only benefit of being an Evil Ghost.

Just then, I saw Xu Fu from afar, carrying a small paper parcel and a jug of wine. As he came up, I caught a whiff of a strange, delicious aroma.

"Eat it while it's hot."

I responded, "Oh." It was roast chicken, golden and crispy, and it smelled wonderful. I ate a little.

"It's really delicious."

"I had to go quite far to buy it, haha. And this wine—it's excellent too."

As we ate, we started chatting again.
