Evan Yang combined Phantom Steps with Soaring Sky Dance Steps, moving swiftly inside the formation. The tornadoes couldn’t harm him at all, nor could they sweep him away.
Outside the formation, the Masked Man cycled from anger to curiosity to shock, then finally asked suspiciously, "What’s your relationship with that kid Evan Yang?"
“You figured it out?” Evan, dodging tornadoes, heard the voice and wondered to himself. Then, seizing the opportunity to probe the other’s identity, he replied, “He’s my senior martial brother. Why, do you know him?”
“He’s your senior martial brother? Impossible! You’re already at the Soul-Forming Realm, while he’s only at the Fusion Realm!” the Masked Man said, not believing it.
Fusion Realm? Evan remembered that the last time he exposed his identity on the continent was six years ago, when the Shadowhand Guild’s formation was disrupted by a Spirit-Wandering expert, and he was discovered in that instant.
Evan quickly responded with a smile, “Is it impossible for a junior to surpass his senior in cultivation?”
The Masked Man felt it made sense. Regardless of whether the person before him was Evan Yang’s junior, he still wanted to kill Evan at this moment. So he snorted coldly, “If he’s your senior martial brother, then you deserve to die even more!”
“What did my senior martial brother do to offend you? Why do you hate him so much?” Evan asked curiously while dodging the tornadoes.
The Masked Man snorted coldly, “He killed my brother, killed my father, and destroyed my clan! Tell me, shouldn’t I hate him?”
“Killed your brother? Killed your father? Destroyed your clan?” Evan searched his memory for anything like that.
“Don’t you think he deserves to die?” the Masked Man said angrily.
“Are you Warren Wong of the Wong Clan?” Evan finally found a clue in his memories. The only one who could claim a feud for killing both his brother and father was Warren Wong.
“How did you know?” The Masked Man was shocked. He’d only said a few words; unless Evan himself was standing here, or someone extremely close to him, no one else could have guessed his identity so quickly.
Hearing that, Evan was even more shocked. He hadn’t expected that the person who’d hated and tried to kill him for so long was actually Warren Wong. In just a few years, Warren’s cultivation had reached such heights, and he seemed so familiar with these insects. Evan was stunned and said, “Of course I know. I also know that back then you and your brother went to great lengths to try to kill me.”
“You?” The Masked Man was confused. Evan had just claimed to be a junior martial brother, and now he spoke as himself. Then Evan’s familiar face appeared before Warren Wong, shocking him. “So it’s really you!”
“I never expected that the one harvesting primordial spirits, the so-called emissary, would turn out to be you!” Evan said, full of disbelief.
“Good, good, excellent! Today, I can finally get my revenge! Evan Yang, I never thought that after just six years, your cultivation would improve so much. You’re terrifying, but today, since you’ve entered this formation, you’ll only be at my mercy!” Warren Wong was extremely excited, as if his years-long nightmare would end today.
That wild, almost demonic excitement from deep within made Evan wonder if Warren had lost control of his mind.
“Revenge? Shouldn’t it be me saying that? Back then, you and your brother tried to kill me, then you and your father tried again. If I killed your brother and father, it was their own fault!” Evan said, completely unrepentant. If he hadn’t been lucky, he’d have died long ago.
“I don’t care! You killed my brother, killed my father, and ruined my clan! This is all your fault. No matter how strong you get, you’ll only be trapped here, at my mercy!” Warren Wong roared. Whether it was his fault or not, he blamed everything on Evan. If not for Evan, he wouldn’t be in such a miserable state.
“Just you? If you want to follow your brother and father, come at me!” Evan snorted, completely fearless.
Warren Wong, furious, intensified the tornadoes inside the formation. The tornadoes grew stronger and faster, but Evan split his divine sense into four hundred threads to detect each wind’s approach and dodge in time.
After a quarter of an hour, seeing Evan unaffected by the tornadoes, Warren snorted coldly. “I want to see just how strong you really are!” With a wave, snow began to fall inside.
Snow inside the formation—a terrifying array. But Evan wasn’t afraid at all. Snow? Wherever he went, the snow melted into water. Right now, his whole body radiated heat.
With the Sacred Flame and Heaven-Cold Seed, his body was like a furnace. Snow posed no obstacle at all. Tornadoes mixed with snowflakes turned into a raging blizzard.
Water accumulated, slowly seeping out of the formation.
“Damn it, even this won’t work! Am I really powerless against you?” Warren Wong was shocked. This formation was supposed to be extremely powerful, designed and authorized by that person as his ultimate insurance.
He’d thought this formation could trap even Spirit-Wandering experts, but Evan’s power was so overwhelming that nothing seemed able to restrain him.
“Do I really have to use that?” Seeing Evan had exceeded all expectations and he’d used up every trick except his last life-saving talisman, Warren hesitated.
But he’d been warned not to use it lightly. If it failed, he wouldn’t be able to trap Evan again. If it succeeded, Evan would be annihilated.
Now there were two choices: open the formation and use the final method to kill Evan. If it succeeded, he’d seize Evan’s primordial spirit and do whatever he wanted. The other option was to keep Evan trapped here forever.
But Warren Wong had things to do; he couldn’t let Evan live. He’d sold himself out for power, and now that he’d found his enemy, he had to deal with him to fulfill his mission.
(Irrelevant system message skipped.)
Driven by hatred, Warren’s eyes turned blood-red as he stared at Evan. “Kid, just wait for death.”
After that, Warren muttered something under his breath, while Evan inside the formation wondered what trick Warren would use next.
Evan then saw that outside the formation, countless insects had gathered. The formation was surrounded by tens of thousands of bugs. Once the formation opened, Evan would be directly attacked by them.
“Seriously? He’s not going to use that move, is he?” Evan said in surprise, seeing the swarm outside.
Evan guessed right. Warren wanted to use the countless insects below to deal with him. No matter how strong Evan was, he’d eventually run out of strength. Even he couldn’t handle thousands of bugs at once. Without the pressure of a Spirit-Wandering expert, he couldn’t kill them all.
As the summoner, Warren knew better than anyone how terrifying these insects were.
He sneered at Evan, “Kid, today I’m taking your primordial spirit!”
“Is that so?” Evan was shocked, but not afraid.
“Looks like you won’t submit unless you die. Today I’ll destroy your physical body first!” Warren sneered. Then Evan saw a flash of light before his eyes.
The entire formation vanished, and the insects surged forward to attack.
Evan leapt out of the formation. He didn’t want to keep waiting inside the immortal array. Since the other side had opened it, he had no reason not to escape. He moved extremely fast and quickly arrived near Warren, but the swarm still rushed toward him.
In an instant, Evan became the food that all the insects fought to seize.
A swarm wider than five or six men covered Evan. From outside, Warren saw nothing but insects—he couldn’t see Evan inside, nor sense his aura, which was completely masked by the bugs.
Seeing this, Warren sneered, “I refuse to believe that tens or hundreds of thousands of bugs can’t kill you!”
Evan really couldn’t attack so many insects at once. These bugs could destroy the bodies of Soul-Forming Great Perfection experts.
As they swarmed in, Evan originally wanted to blast them away, but then he recalled how, back in Deepreach City’s forests, bugs that entered his body simply died and posed no threat. So he decided to test these insects.
The bugs easily got close and tried to burrow in, but Evan found they couldn’t pierce his skin. Only now did he realize that his powerful body was as tough as a high-grade spirit tool. These insects could threaten Soul-Forming experts, but against Evan’s hardened body, they were useless.
This delighted Evan. He let the insects crash against him—none could penetrate his body.
Outside, Warren saw only a swarm of bugs wrapped layer after layer around Evan, unable to tell if Evan’s body had been destroyed.
“Is he dead?” Warren muttered when nothing moved.
He ordered some bugs to clear a gap, revealing Evan’s head. Evan was completely fine, smiling at Warren. “Is this all you’ve got?”
“You! Impossible—how could this happen?” Warren watched as the insects slammed into Evan but couldn’t enter his body. He was shocked; it was the first time he’d encountered such a strange situation.
He’d thought Evan might have some kind of artifact, but Evan’s head was fine, and even his unprotected hands were unharmed. Warren stared at him in terror. “You—impossible! How could this happen?”
Hearing Warren repeat the same words in disbelief, Evan laughed. “Is this your method?”
“Kid, don’t get cocky! I refuse to believe it!” Warren, now frightened, tried to steady himself and snorted coldly at Evan.
Evan just smiled at Warren. Though he couldn’t move, surrounded by so many bugs, he was completely unaffected—he felt no pain at all.
