In Wendy Hua's eyes, only a man like Sylas Ren was worthy of her—handsome, skilled in martial arts. The moment he heard she was being forced to marry that old man, he went out of his way to deliver her letter, showing just how much he cared. Once this ordeal was over, she would have her father approve their marriage. Big Brother Ren would be overjoyed!
Sylas Ren felt his scalp tingle under her gaze, a hint of doubt flickering in his heart. Had he come to the wrong place? This play wasn’t as easy to watch as he’d imagined!
“Wishful thinking!”
Suddenly, a soft, sweet voice interrupted, shattering her daydream. Wendy Hua’s anger flared as she turned to see a rosy-cheeked little girl standing atop the carriage, her face full of disdain.
Roxy Shangguan was anything but polite. She wasn’t stupid—she could sense Quentin Hua’s emotions, so before she even arrived, she’d already decided everyone in the Hua Family was a bunch of jerks!
Sylas Ren glanced at Roxy Shangguan and suddenly found her utterly charming—a little fairy, really!
Wendy Hua, on the other hand, felt exactly the opposite. Where did this brat come from, daring to call her delusional? Fury surged as she pointed at Roxy Shangguan and snapped, “You—”
Before she could finish, Roxy Shangguan ignored her completely and turned to Sylas Ren, shouting, “Sylas Ren, I’ll skin you alive! This isn’t a funeral, so what’s the rush?” Damn Sylas Ren, driving the carriage so fast—her poor little butt! If it weren’t for Quentin Hua’s lap as a cushion, she’d have fallen apart by now!
Sylas Ren’s lips twitched. He couldn’t help but look down on Roxy Shangguan a little—her martial arts were even stronger than his, and she was complaining about a few bumps? Besides, he knew she’d been curled up in Quentin Hua’s arms the whole time; how uncomfortable could she be? Still, he wasn’t dumb enough to argue with Roxy Shangguan. He simply smiled and said, “Little ancestor, if we don’t hurry, we really will be attending a funeral!”
Seeing Roxy Shangguan ignore her and Sylas Ren actually talk to her, Wendy Hua’s anger flared even hotter. “Brat—”
“Smack…”
The crisp sound was abrupt, leaving Wendy Hua stunned. Her pretty face swelled up instantly, but she had no idea who had hit her.
Sylas Ren was a good distance away, and she was sure he wouldn’t hit her. Roxy Shangguan was still on the carriage, and no little girl could hit that hard. Charles Hua and Du Zhiqiu had never laid a hand on her, and Du Qiyue wouldn’t either.
It was the first time in her life she’d been slapped, and for a moment, she was frozen. Then, rage surged even stronger—but she didn’t know who to vent it at. In the end, the unlucky target was the ever-annoying Roxy Shangguan. “Bra—”
She’d barely gotten the word out when—smack!—her other cheek was swollen too.
At that moment, Charles Hua and Du Zhiqiu snapped back to their senses, their faces darkening. Their precious daughter was someone they cherished, afraid she’d break if held too tightly or melt if spoken to sweetly. Now she’d been slapped—unthinkable!
Roxy Shangguan hopped off the carriage, touching her chin and tilting her head as she looked at the dazed Wendy Hua. She grinned, “Perfect symmetry, Hua Hua! You’ve got great aim!”
Sylas Ren tutted twice. Quentin Hua really hadn’t held back at all! Looking at Wendy Hua’s pig-like face, Sylas Ren felt relieved—without a hint of sympathy—thinking it’d be great if she always looked like this. She’d be too embarrassed to pester him anymore!
Quentin Hua stepped down from the carriage, not sparing a glance at the Hua Family. He grabbed Roxy Shangguan by the collar and pulled her into his arms, frowning. “How can you be so silly?”
Roxy Shangguan pouted, just about to protest, when Quentin Hua suddenly produced a small paper packet and handed it to her. “This is poison. Take it and whoever you give it to will bleed from every orifice and die within fifteen minutes. If you don’t like someone, just let them have it!” Since Roxy wanted to play, he wouldn’t spoil her fun—but if he heard any more nasty words, he might not hold back before she’d had her fill.
“Cough, cough…” Sylas Ren choked on his own saliva. Seeing the little paper packet, he even took two steps back with a look of mock fear.
Roxy Shangguan shot him a glance, unable to resist rolling her eyes. She didn’t really like Sylas Ren, but surely such poison wouldn’t be enough to trouble The Wanderer, right? He was such a faker!
The Hua Family members’ expressions changed, too. Charles Hua had originally wanted to put Quentin Hua in his place, so he kept silent when Wendy Hua tried to scold Roxy Shangguan.
But now, it seemed Quentin Hua was the one putting them in their place.
Charles Hua’s face darkened. Du Zhiqiu knew that Quentin Hua was a thorn in Charles’s side; for Charles to swallow his pride and speak kindly to Quentin was almost impossible. So, he suppressed his dislike and forced a smile, “Yu’er, you’ve finally come home. You left so ruthlessly, and now you’ve been gone so long!”
Quentin Hua didn’t reply, simply carrying Roxy Shangguan into Hua Mansion. Sylas Ren raised an eyebrow and followed after them.
Du Zhiqiu’s expression soured, while Du Qiyue kept her eyes on Quentin Hua’s back, a blush creeping over her face and her heart pounding. Cousin is so beautiful!
No matter how unwilling they were, the Hua Family didn’t dare offend Quentin Hua, their only support. Charles Hua ordered the servants to treat Quentin and his group well, but had no intention of seeing them himself. To him, Quentin’s return meant he’d agreed to help the Hua Family, and the burden in his heart was lifted.
Inside the room, Sylas Ren had barely sat down when Roxy Shangguan started shooing him away, “Sylas Ren, don’t interrupt our romance, or you’ll get kicked by a horse!”
Sylas Ren broke out in a cold sweat as Roxy Shangguan glared at him. He could only scratch his nose and leave, though of course he wasn’t leaving Hua Mansion—he still wanted to watch the drama unfold! And to get the best view, he made sure to stay as close to Quentin Hua and Roxy Shangguan as possible, even moving into the room next door.
After Sylas Ren left, Roxy Shangguan hugged Quentin Hua tightly and mumbled, “Hua Hua, I’m sorry…”
