I saw the two Yellow Ghosts who had just been talking. Their bodies looked tattered, faces twisted in panic, lingering at the very end of the line. Their eyes darted around, haunted and desperate, as if the slightest sound might send them fleeing.
I struggled to my feet and staggered over.
"You two, are you out of money?" I lowered my voice, glaring at the two Yellow Ghosts. They immediately shook their heads and pulled out money—a pile of crumpled Spirit Notes. Did they really rob Lord Wraith's Starving Wraiths?
About the Starvation Woods that Brother Owen mentioned, I’d heard Zhu Zigui talk about it before—the Starving Wraiths, driven by unbearable hunger, constantly devouring nearby ghosts. But in these woods, there should be very few Starving Wraiths left after all these years. So why did Brother Owen say there were still so many?
Once I saw things were in order, I went over to remind Boss Ma’s subordinate to pay up.
"I’ll go ask Louis Lee about the person who ran in. I’m pretty curious, haha. Good story to share with the brothers inside."
Then I headed straight for Louis Lee, urging the convoy to move forward.
"Sir, here’s the thing: that person ran in to settle a score with me. I went through hell to find a stand-in—wasn’t easy, you know? I finally escaped misery. That guy was vicious, even chopped off one of my arms. I barely survived, got hurt in the fall, but Boss Ma patched me up. Haha."
"Oh, really? So, did they catch that person?" I kept glancing at the woods and at the slow-moving convoy.
"Sir, let’s walk and talk." Louis Lee said, about to leave, but I quickly blocked his way.
