Old Acquaintance Arrives
"Darling, hurry and drink the wild chicken ginseng soup—it's good for you!" Lucky stared eagerly at Lily Evans, refusing to let her go until she finished the whole bowl of nourishing soup.
"If you keep feeding me this every day, aren't you afraid I'll turn into a chubby dumpling?" Lily Evans laughed as she put down the bowl. Spotting Cynthia Wu coming in, she said, "Cynthia, you look so happy! What's the good news today?"
Cynthia Wu entered, her cheeks flushed, hesitating for a moment before finally saying, "Mark Hunter came to my house to propose!"
"Wow!" Lily Evans looked at Cynthia Wu's crimson face, thinking to herself that the two were finally settling their marriage. Mark Hunter was such a good man—missing out on him would be Cynthia's lifelong regret.
Though that was what she thought, Lily Evans decided to tease Cynthia Wu, deliberately saying, "Cynthia, if you don't like Mark Hunter, I'll go tell your dad not to agree to the match!"
With that, Lily Evans got up and marched energetically toward the door.
"Oh no, Lily, don't go!" Cynthia Wu panicked and hurried after her, pulling her back. "When did I ever say I didn't like him?"
"Oh, so you do like him!" Lily Evans grinned, winking playfully.
Only then did Cynthia Wu realize she'd been teased. She pretended to be angry and pinched Lily Evans's waist. "You brat, always messing with me! Just wait, I'll get you back!"
The two girls giggled and chased each other around the courtyard, their laughter ringing out like silver bells beyond the gate.
