The Mindscape Trap

Chapter 1473

At that moment, Leon suddenly spotted a familiar face—Uther...

Leon couldn't help but smile when he saw Uther. Within a thirty-kilometer radius, and with the sky already shattered, Leon knew exactly how many living ants remained here.

Among the surviving creatures were more than a dozen intelligent races, but the number of people had dwindled to just over three hundred. Out of these, Leon was sure he hadn't missed Uther before.

It was as if this guy had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Leon noticed him the moment he showed up, but even then, he couldn't figure out how Uther had arrived.

The survivors were locked in a desperate battle with the undead, and Leon had joined the fray. It was during the chaos that he suddenly realized Uther was fighting the undead too...

Leon immediately sensed something was off. The Mindscape wasn't a complete historical timeline; it was more like a collage of crucial scenes, pieced together into a world with fractured logic and broken continuity.

Uther's sudden appearance here meant that, in the real history, this guy must have just popped up on the battlefield—and that wasn't necessarily wrong.

But this was the Mindscape—the very last, shattered Mindscape. There was no way a new life could just appear at the end. Maybe Uther was actually the master of this Mindscape.

He still bore obvious elven features, with a patch of black reverse scale under his jaw. In the era of the Nesser Dynasty, his power wasn't all that impressive—just Sky Rank level five. With that kind of strength, before the great war broke out, he could've been executed by Pureblood Elves at any moment.

A half-elf with Black Dragon blood, and he’d even advanced to Transcendent. To Pureblood Elves—especially Sunfire Elves—that was a disgrace. Some Sky Rank Nine powerhouses would even shamelessly intervene themselves...

The battle raged on, and the last remnants of the world were collapsing faster and faster—total ruin was near. Leon fought the undead while watching Uther, but before he could confirm whether Uther was the Mindscape Master, Uther was attacked by the undead...

An Ironclaw Wraith suddenly appeared behind Uther, its claws piercing through his back and bursting out of his chest. Uther’s beating heart was torn out, shredded, and devoured.

The change came so suddenly that Leon had no time to intervene.

Seeing this, Leon was stunned. Wasn’t Uther supposed to be the Mindscape Master? He just got taken out like that?

Uther’s heart had been ripped out and devoured. Unless a Lightbearer Mage of Sky Rank Seven or higher cast a level ten Resurrection spell, not even a life potion could save him now...

Uther’s corpse hadn’t even hit the ground when a necromancer behind him cast Necro-Rebirth, transforming his body into an undead zombie.

His chest was hollow, skin turning an iron-blue shade at a terrifying speed. His eyes, wide open in death, were now covered with a layer of congealed death energy; even his soul was set ablaze, becoming soul fire.

Leon’s expression grew grave. He still couldn’t figure out who the true Mindscape Master was. Uther seemed the likeliest, but now the guy was dead—turned into an undead...

Now that Uther was undead, his speed was terrifying. He quickly tore apart several surviving powerhouses, then locked his gaze on Leon, leaping toward him with unnatural agility.

Sharp nails grew from Uther’s fingers, gleaming with a metallic sheen like the finest blades. Leon frowned—the space here was shrinking, the undead multiplying, and there was no way to dodge perfectly.

He raised a Fusion Shield and dodged to the side, only to see Uther’s claws slicing toward his right shoulder—where the little fat kid was still clinging, too scared to say a word.

Faced with those razor-sharp blades closing in, the little fat kid was completely petrified. His pudgy body jolted and sprang off Leon’s shoulder.

Leon’s expression shifted slightly—he hadn’t expected the kid to cause trouble at such a crucial moment. If he landed outside, the swarming undead would tear him apart, even if they weren’t aiming for him.

But what shocked Leon even more was what happened next. Just as Uther was about to attack Leon, he suddenly changed direction—he hadn’t been targeting Leon at all. From the start, it was all about the little fat kid...

The kid was still mid-air, helplessly watching the claws reach for him. But in that instant, a hand shot out and grabbed him, while Uther’s talons struck Leon’s Fusion Shield.

A fierce burst of magical light exploded—the blades seemed to clash with the Fusion Shield hundreds of times in an instant. But even that power couldn’t break through.

Leon’s gaze grew deep as he hovered there, holding the terrified, white-eyed kid, watching Uther attack like a madman. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break through Leon’s Fusion Shield.

The world around them collapsed, swallowed by darkness. Countless undead were silently devoured, and Uther only grew more desperate, howling as he tried to break Leon’s Fusion Shield.

After a few tests, Leon was certain—the zombie Uther was after the kid. He could see him clearly; this guy was the key to the Mindscape.

But Leon didn’t move—he simply waited for the world to shatter.

Time ticked by. Soon, Uther let out a furious, unwilling roar as the entire world shattered. It was like a perfect mirror breaking into hundreds of pieces, each fragment crumbling even further.

As the collapse began, Leon’s gaze locked onto a blood-red light orb, hidden behind the Mindscape like a reflection behind a mirror.

The moment he spotted it, Leon unleashed all his power—Death Tome, Spellbook of Ages, Doombringer Staff, Arcane Wheel...

After so long in the Mindscape, it wasn’t all for nothing. At least the hidden danger from the Death Mark’s level boost was now resolved. Only now had he truly become a Sky Rank Seven mage.

All his magical artifacts became sources of power, and he unleashed his full strength in one breath. This wasn’t spellcasting—it was pure insight into magical laws and artifact power, forcing a path through the shattered worlds.

Between the thousand-meter fragments lay endless void—an uncrossable chasm. Yet, some faint connections remained, holding the remnants together as a broken whole.

A radiant beam enveloped Leon, like a comet slicing through darkness, piercing fragment after fragment until he reached the blood-red orb.

Seeing the orb, Leon raised the open Death Tome and slammed it down hard onto the blood-red light.

In an instant, the orb seemed to be wrenched by invisible hands, dragged toward the Death Tome. A terrifying scream echoed in Leon’s ears, nearly shattering his soul—his vision went black.

But in that moment, the blood-red orb was completely pulled into the Death Tome. With a bang, the Death Tome snapped shut, chains appearing out of thin air to bind it tightly. Leon, pale-faced, clung to the Death Tome. When he opened his eyes again, the shattered space around him had vanished.

He’d escaped...

Everything was still illusory. Before him floated orbs of light—apart from those representing the Vampire Progenitors, only five remained. The sixth had vanished completely...

Leon took out two potions and swallowed them. It took a full three days before his face regained some color and his unfocused eyes finally came back into focus.

Looking at the still-glowing Death Tome in his hand, Leon let out a cold, sardonic smile.

When every impossibility is eliminated, whatever remains—no matter how improbable—must be the truth.

That Mindscape hadn’t trapped anyone. Or rather, the one trapped inside wasn’t the Mindscape Master at all—a Mindscape with its master missing...

But even that’s not quite right. The Uther I saw was definitely trying to escape, but that world itself was unsolvable. The true key to the Mindscape was that blood-red orb.

You could say it was inside the Mindscape, but also not. If the key to escape wasn’t in the Mindscape, how could anyone get out?

The only chance was that one instant when the world completely shattered—only then would the key to escape the Mindscape appear. Unless you knew in advance, how could you possibly seize that moment?

Staying in this final, apocalyptic era of the Nesser Dynasty, watching its destruction accelerate beyond belief, Leon kept eliminating possibilities. In the end—especially after seeing Uther attack the kid—he realized there was only one explanation left, the most improbable of all.

And that’s exactly how it was—this Mindscape was a trap!
