On the boundless black sea, Lan Yin's figure had already vanished. He hadn't said another word. I quietly gazed at the distant, brilliant white city as Despair Origin pulled me up onto the city wall.
There was no explanation, and Lan Yin didn't want to fight me. He had said his goal was accomplished, though I still didn't understand what he truly meant.
"Do you know what happened back then?"
I asked, and Despair Origin shook his head and replied.
"That incident was the catalyst for my birth, so I'm not entirely clear. The only thing I know is that he wants the power of this world to achieve certain goals."
"Is it related to Oath Island?"
I sat down, my heart tangled with hesitation. I didn't know what to do, and once again, a sense of helplessness flooded my soul.
Despair Origin shook his head again.
"This world has three dimensions, layered and superimposed. Now, all three have appeared. The other two have already merged. When the sun finally approaches, the three dimensions will overlap, and Lan Yin's goal will be fulfilled. As the medium, I will disappear as well."
Suddenly, I stood up, my mind swirling with what Rachel Lan had said to me at the table that day—the story of that gentle figure from childhood, and her cries on this city wall. All of it was worth staking my life to protect.
"I must stop him, no matter his reasons. I have to stop him."
Despair Origin smiled calmly.
"If it's you, maybe it's possible. I'll send Rachel Lan back."
Despair Origin let out a whoosh and flew toward the brilliant city ahead. Behind me, Earthly Soul sighed helplessly.
"If I were you, I'd leave everything here behind and take Rachel Lan away. That's the safest way. Is it really meaningful to risk your life for things that don't matter?"
I shook my head, then let out a sigh, tilted my head back, stretched out one leg while bending the other, and rested my hands on my knees, lying down and quietly gazing into the distance.
Maybe these meaningless things are like that for you, and for many others they're insignificant and unrealistic. But...
I paused, then smiled, my mind full of memories of the first time I met Rachel Lan. She intervened in my affairs for no reason, even helping me at all costs. As for Lan Yin, even if Rachel Lan knew, her decisions wouldn't change.
It's precisely because of these rays of light that the world keeps turning. For me, these things are worth risking everything for. Maybe you can't understand, Blackie.
I muttered, and Earthly Soul came over, sat beside me, and looked at me quietly.
