Lovable Troublemaker and Unlucky Zuo An
Left Shore always felt his life was plain but happy. Though he was born poor and had an unfortunate childhood, he met a good master who gave him a different kind of life.
His master was strict, but taught him many skills. With his master's guidance, he didn't grow crooked from losing his parents—he didn't become one of those idle, pleasure-seeking young lords.
Left Shore always considered himself lucky. Even as an assassin, he was the best in the trade; no rule could bind him—until...
He met Dorian Owen (Doudou)!
After meeting Dorian Owen (Doudou), his life became a series of stacked misfortunes.
In his master's eyes, Left Shore was no longer the most important—Dorian Owen (Doudou) was. He endured it.
In the Assassin Alliance, no matter how well he did, he could never outshine Dorian Owen (Doudou)'s foolishness. He endured it.
On missions, he often had to drop his own tasks to support Dorian Owen (Doudou). He endured it.
While resting at home, he frequently received messages to go fetch the lost Dorian Owen (Doudou). He endured it.
But now, he truly couldn't take it anymore!
He’d been hiding deep in the mountains for over a month, finally recovering from his wounds and shaking off his Princess Royal mother’s assassins. But why, before he even made it down the mountain, did he run into Dorian Owen (Doudou) again?
“What are you doing here?” Left Shore was stunned. Before Dorian Owen (Doudou) could answer, he pressed again, “Where’s the child?”
With Dorian Owen (Doudou)'s skills, that kid wouldn't last seven days in his hands. That's why Left Shore calculated the timing and route, making sure Dorian Owen (Doudou) had to deliver the child to Serena within seven days.
“Waaah, Left Shore, I finally found you! I’ve been searching for you forever!” Dorian Owen (Doudou) didn’t hear a word Left Shore said. The moment he saw him, his eyes lit up and he dove at him.
Left Shore dodged aside, so Dorian Owen (Doudou) missed and fell with a thud. But Dorian Owen (Doudou) didn’t care—if he couldn’t hug Left Shore, he just hugged his leg instead: “Left Shore, I missed you so much! Do you know how long I’ve been searching for you? If I couldn’t find you, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
Dorian Owen (Doudou) was crying and sniffling, totally ignoring Left Shore’s dark expression, pouring out all his hardships from the past month.
Serena sent someone to guide him, but halfway there he accidentally ditched the guide. He kept walking and walking until his silver ran out, and somehow, the farther he walked, the less he saw another soul.
He hadn’t seen a single living soul for ten days straight. If Left Shore hadn’t shown up, he wouldn’t just be moldy—he’d be rotten.
When Left Shore heard Dorian Owen (Doudou) say he’d told Serena the child was Ninth Royal Uncle’s, his face changed instantly. “You told Serena that was Ninth Royal Uncle’s child?”
“Where’s the child?” Left Shore asked again. Dorian Owen (Doudou)’s sobbing was cut short, and he quickly replied, “Gave him to Serena.”
Then he kept crying—crying about how hard the journey was, crying about how much he’d suffered to find Left Shore, crying about how heroic he was.
“Left Shore, I realized I’m just too amazing. I nearly—just to come find you...”
“Let go.” Left Shore’s face was dark. He tried to kick Doudou off, but Doudou was as quick as a wild animal—every time Left Shore moved, Doudou just clung tighter.
“Left Shore, you’re the best! I knew you’d come find me. You’d never let me die out here. My master was right—once I found you, I wouldn’t have to worry about dying on the road. Don’t worry, Left Shore, I’ll never bully you again, never tattle to Master about you again...”
Doudou was getting all worked up, but Left Shore just wanted to kill someone. Since when was he the one searching for Doudou? When did he ever go looking for Doudou?
Not that it mattered—the real issue was, if Doudou kept howling, the people hunting him might catch up again.
Was Doudou here to find him, or just to torture him?
Left Shore didn’t want to waste his breath. Since he couldn’t kick Doudou off, he dragged him along for a couple steps, thinking the pain would make him let go. No such luck—Doudou didn’t care at all. Left Shore dragged him, Doudou’s clothes tore, his knees bled, but he still wouldn’t let go.
Waaah... He hadn’t eaten in days! If Left Shore abandoned him, he’d definitely die here, and rot away with no one ever knowing.
Doudou’s clinginess was legendary—against him, normal people could only surrender. After several failed attempts to shake him off, Left Shore had no choice but to squat down and pry Doudou’s fingers off one by one.
Doudou stared blankly at Left Shore, confused. “Left Shore, what’s wrong?”
“I’m fine.” Except running into you makes me anything but.
Left Shore answered with a blank face, but kept working on Doudou’s fingers. No matter how tightly Doudou gripped, he was no match for Left Shore.
Soon, Left Shore’s leg escaped Doudou’s death grip. He got up and headed straight down the mountain without looking back. Doudou lay on the ground for ages, not understanding what just happened. By the time he figured it out, Left Shore was already a tiny dot in the distance.
“Left Shore, wait for me! You can’t just use me and toss me aside. If I hadn’t helped you deliver the child to Serena, you never would’ve managed it yourself. Left Shore...” Doudou suddenly sprinted after him—he didn’t look like someone who’d been starving for days at all.
“Shut up!” Left Shore finally snapped, turning to shout. Doudou clammed up instantly, sniffling and looking at Left Shore with a lost, innocent face, like he’d just been bullied.
Left Shore glared hard at Doudou, but in the end, he was defeated by Doudou’s thick skin. “Hurry up and move.”
“Yay! I knew you were the best, Left Shore!” Doudou jumped for joy and shamelessly followed close behind, chattering about everything that had happened at Feng Manor while Left Shore was away.
When Left Shore heard Doudou say he’d told Serena the child was Ninth Royal Uncle’s, his face changed instantly. “You told Serena that was Ninth Royal Uncle’s child?”
Left Shore suddenly spun around, and Doudou, caught off guard, crashed right into him. “Ow! Left Shore, why’d you stop so suddenly?”
Doudou rubbed his nose where he’d bumped it, eyes brimming with tears.
Waaah, it hurt so much...
Left Shore couldn’t care less about Doudou’s pain. He pressed on, “Just tell me—what exactly did you say to Serena?” Surely Serena wouldn’t get so mad she’d kill her own little brother, right?
Oh god!
Left Shore regretted everything. If he could do it all over, he’d never take Doudou out, and definitely wouldn’t trust him with the child—even if Doudou was the best candidate.
After all, nobody would believe that someone as clueless as Doudou, with his crazy martial arts, would be carrying a kid around as baggage.
“Say what? I didn’t say anything! Wasn’t that Ninth Royal Uncle’s kid? What’s wrong with telling Serena? Serena’s always so good to me, I couldn’t lie to her.” Doudou was totally convinced he’d done nothing wrong.
Serena didn’t scold him, so he must’ve done the right thing. Doudou nodded hard, absolutely certain he was in the clear!
“Serena was nice to you?” Left Shore was about to lose it. Compared to Serena, he was the one who’d done the most for Doudou—so why did Doudou only remember Serena’s kindness and forget all the years Left Shore had spent running around for him?
“Of course! Serena’s the best to me.” Doudou answered without thinking, his eyes clear and bright, not a hint of shadow in them.
Left Shore was speechless with rage. He honestly wanted to crack open Doudou’s head and see what was inside. How could someone this dumb still be alive? It was honestly impressive...
