The main character always makes her entrance last. Serena Feng had no desire to become the center of attention, so she timed her departure carefully. Unfortunately, fate was not on her side—the carriage broke down outside the city.
"Looks like we're not going anywhere." Serena Feng inspected the carriage and immediately knew today was going to be trouble. She tried flagging down several passing carriages, but not a single person was willing to help.
The only one who did stop, upon hearing she was Serena Feng, promptly ordered the driver to whip the horses and leave, as if being associated with her would bring bad luck.
"Miss, what should we do now?" the coachman asked nervously.
Stranded in the wilderness, with no village ahead and no inn behind, it was nearly impossible to find anyone willing to help.
"There's nothing to do. Untie the horse from the carriage—I’ll ride it." Serena Feng said unconcernedly.
Since someone clearly didn’t want her showing up at the Poetry Salon, she was determined to go anyway.
"But this horse has no saddle or stirrups, Miss—how can you ride it?"
"I can still ride it. I'll just go slower. Untie the reins." Serena Feng glanced at the sky, calculating that if she didn’t get moving soon, she’d definitely be late.
The coachman didn’t dare disobey and obediently stepped forward. Just then, the sound of hoofbeats echoed from behind.
