The Shadowlin City Lord was starting to lose his composure. The purple light that had just flashed from Evan Chu’s hand gave him a sense of crisis. This youth might look like his cultivation level was low, but his attack power was truly terrifying. All he could think now was: this person is anything but simple.
"Who the hell are you? I don’t recall ever offending you—so why are you causing chaos in Shadowlin City?" the City Lord demanded, finally feeling that dangerous pressure.
"You’re not qualified to know who I am. But I’ll give you one chance—submit, and I’ll spare you. Refuse, and today you really die," Evan Chu grinned coldly.
"Hahaha! Kid, your power might be freaky, but I’m not scared. You think killing one Red Lotus Guard makes you a big deal? Today you’ll learn there are people you just can’t mess with! Silver Lotus Guards—crush this arrogant brat!" the City Lord roared.
Just then, three middle-aged men flew in through the window. All three were from Young Master Hua’s faction. "Hua’er, who dared disrespect you? Is there really someone in Shadowlin City bold enough to threaten you?"
One of the men immediately asked Young Master Hua—obviously his father. But seeing the City Lord present, his face twisted with anger. "City Lord, you’re here too? My servants said someone was making trouble for my son—and for your son as well. Hard to believe something like this could happen right under your nose."
The City Lord grinned, "Hua Family Patriarch, you might be disappointed this time. The intruder is seriously strong—he’s even trying to strip me of my City Lord’s position! What do you think I should do? Shouldn’t you be helping me out here?" He acted as if Evan Chu’s threat meant nothing to him at all.
The more Evan Chu looked at these two, the more disgusted he felt. He turned to Sean Xiao and snapped, "You’ve got half a stick of incense to kill everyone here. If you can’t, don’t bother showing your face to me again!"
Then he said to Ethan Fenn and the three women—Roxanne Lin, Jade Chu, and Faye Knox, "Let’s go. I want to see what the Shadowlin City Lord’s Mansion is really like."
Sean Xiao shot Evan Chu a glare. "Always dumping the grunt work on me, huh? Fine—just make sure there’s wine waiting at the City Lord’s Mansion. We’re not done drinking yet!"
The two men’s conversation was outrageously arrogant, making both the Shadowlin City Lord and the Hua Family Patriarch grit their teeth. As Evan Chu and the others stood up to leave, the Silver Lotus Guards and two middle-aged men from the Hua Family instantly moved to block their way.
Evan Chu frowned slightly. "If you want to die, I’ll grant your wish!" With a thought, he unleashed Windshift—countless cyan wind blades appeared before him. With his current strength, these blades could instantly kill any early-layer Venerable expert. In a flash, the men blocking their path had their throats sliced open and their bodies slashed to the bone.
It took just one move to slaughter them all. Everyone stared at Evan Chu like he was some kind of monster—even Ethan, who knew exactly how strong the Silver Lotus Guards were. Instant-killing them like this was just terrifying.
"This is what happens when you block my way. Shadowlin City Lord, I gave you a chance, but you didn’t treasure it—now it’s too late to regret. And you, Hua Family Patriarch, don’t think you can do whatever you want just because Cindy Cheng is Logan Shaw’s disciple. Let me be clear: I killed Logan Shaw yesterday. The so-called Human King of the Humans is gone, but a new Human King will rise soon—not that any of you will live to see it! Hahaha!" Evan finished speaking and strode away, holding Faye Knox and Roxanne Lin’s hands.
This time, nobody tried to stop him. His words had stunned everyone—if they were true, then everyone here was doomed. If they were false, well, it didn’t seem likely; anyone who could treat Venerable experts like nothing had to be even stronger.
Only after Evan Chu’s group left did the crowd snap out of it. The Shadowlin City Lord hadn’t gotten his position for nothing—he realized the danger and didn’t bother with his half-dead son, instantly darting out the window.
Sean Xiao hadn’t expected the guy to run so fast, but he didn’t bother chasing him—he knew Evan Chu would handle it.
"Since someone wants you dead, I won’t show mercy either. Before you die, let me make it clear—Logan Shaw really was killed by him, and I will be the new Human King. But you dared disrespect the Human King, so you can only pay for it with your lives!" Sean Xiao said with a smile.
Just then, a few people tried to escape out the window—but this time it wasn’t so easy. Sean Xiao had already unleashed his Space Domain. The strongest person on the second floor was only an early-layer Venerable, and in front of Sean’s Fourth-Layer Venerable power, they didn’t stand a chance.
Trapped inside the Space Domain, everyone’s faces twisted in shock and fear, then turned to despair. As soon as Sean Xiao flew out the window, he compressed his domain with a thought—the overwhelming spatial pressure crushed everyone inside to powder.
With a deafening crash, the entire Fragrant Grove Inn collapsed in an instant. The second floor was reduced to powder, and even many diners on the first floor weren’t spared.
The commotion in Shadowlin City’s streets drew a crowd. Plenty of people realized it had to be connected to the group of three women and one man who entered Fragrant Grove Inn—but nobody dared to investigate.
Just then, a blood-soaked middle-aged man crashed down from the sky. The crowd’s faces changed when they saw who it was—the Shadowlin City Lord himself, the city’s strongest Third-Layer Venerable expert.
A moment later, several more figures descended, led by a white-clothed youth. He glanced at the bloodied City Lord and said coldly, "Did you really think you could escape me? I told you I was giving you a chance, but you thought I was bluffing. Now you know it’s real—but it’s too late."
"Sean Xiao! Don’t tell me you’re leaving this one for me to finish off—if so, you’re really not fit to be Human King," Evan Chu called up to the sky.
Sean Xiao landed and looked at the City Lord, laughing. "When I say you’re going to die, I mean it. Remember next time—look carefully before you provoke someone. Not everyone can be messed with!"
With a single sweeping punch, Sean Xiao blasted a massive hole through the City Lord’s chest. The once-untouchable Shadowlin City Lord was slain right before everyone’s eyes—something nobody had expected.
