Grudgekeeper

Watching Monkey from afar, the Drake King clicked his tongue and laughed: "Five against one, and they're even activating the Exquisite Pagoda... The Handsome Monkey King is surely doomed. In that case, it's just as well—once he's sealed in the Exquisite Pagoda and the South Heaven Gate launches its assault on Blossom Mountain, if we intervene, the demon hordes of Blossom Mountain will be forever grateful. At that point, taking control of Blossom Mountain will be a matter of course."

Whether or not this Handsome Monkey King is the same monkey who once brought him trouble, as long as he dies, it will be the best outcome for himself.

The demon kings all breathed sighs of relief and chuckled.

If Monkey wins, things become complicated. After all, they hope for a suitable reason to take over. Demon kings are fiercely territorial—even those present here are no exception. No demon king would willingly share power with others without a reason.

The death of the Handsome Monkey King is probably the most straightforward solution right now.

At that time, they would act as reinforcements, and the most capable would naturally take charge of Blossom Mountain. This was their plan from the very beginning.

Amidst all this laughter, only one remained silent—the Nine-Headed Wyrm.

He simply couldn’t see anything worth celebrating. Whether Monkey lived or died, or who ruled Blossom Mountain, had nothing to do with him. From start to finish, he felt dragged into this mess by these bastards. If he could, he’d rather never have come at all.

At this moment, Monkey’s situation was indeed as the Drake King had said—time was not on his side.

General Lee, blood streaming from his mouth, still wore a savage grin, his eyes wide and locked onto Monkey.

In the blink of an eye, the Exquisite Pagoda had already grown to seven zhang tall. And the five gods before him seemed to have decided to cast aside all dignity and gang up on the few with the many.

A five-on-one fight, especially with Nathan Young among them, was truly a tough battle.

Monkey gripped his Golden Staff, his gaze slowly sweeping over them, searching intently for a flaw. At last, his eyes settled on King Warren South.

Suddenly, something clicked in his mind. His brows twitched slightly as he spoke: "You must be King Warren South, am I right?"

At these words, King Warren South instinctively shrank back, his brows furrowing. The others all looked puzzled.

The Four Heavenly Kings of South Heaven Gate are actually easy to distinguish: King Northmore wields a parasol, the only one in the Celestial Army to use it as a divine weapon. King Broadgaze has red skin, while King Warren South and King Virūḍhaka both have blue skin.

Among them, it's common knowledge that King Virūḍhaka uses a pipa as his artifact. The remaining one, who wields a sword and also has blue skin, can only be King Warren South.

Under these circumstances, anyone with a bit of sense could recognize King Warren South. But he couldn’t understand why, with three Heavenly Kings present, Monkey singled him out by name.

Could there be some deeper connection?

If even King Warren South couldn’t figure it out, then Nathan Young, General Lee, and the other two kings were even more baffled.

Monkey’s next words pushed King Warren South’s anxiety to its breaking point.

“I’ve been waiting for you a long time.” Monkey grinned, his smile thick with hostility.

Monkey would never forget who set the trap at Dragon’s Pool to lure in the demons, who sent troops that nearly killed him there, who caused the deaths of Old Bull, Old White Ape, Leo, Tiger King...

In the end, even the feather from Birdie, his cherished keepsake, was lost—along with every last thread of hope.

This debt—Drake King, Marshal Silver, King Warren South—he would settle it with each of them, one by one.

But King Warren South knew nothing of this.

Out of fear for Monkey, King Warren South said nothing. But to Monkey, it made no difference whether he admitted it or not.

Monkey’s lips curled into a smile, his eyes slowly widening, a savage gleam flashing within.

All five present were instantly startled!

King Northmore didn’t hesitate—he unfurled his jeweled parasol and shielded General Lee.

King Virūḍhaka’s pipa rang out, sending waves of music sweeping toward Monkey.

As for King Warren South, he poured all his power into the Soulrender Blade, shadows swirling around the sword.

Nathan Young was clearly a beat behind, hesitating. Normally, proud as he was, he’d never join in such a one-sided fight.

Before King Virūḍhaka’s music could reach him, Monkey vanished from his spot and appeared above them, raising the Golden Staff high.

All forces converged on General Lee—even Nathan, though a half-beat late, unleashed the World Ring and Embroidered Orb. Anyone would think Monkey’s target was General Lee.

But they were all wrong.

With a thunderous roar, the suddenly enlarged Golden Staff tore through the air—only to twist at the last moment, smashing into King Warren South at his side!

Everyone—whether the other four, the 180,000 Skyward Legionnaires, the Six Demon Kings, the Nine-Headed Wyrm, or Shortbeak in the demon city—all stared wide-eyed.

In that instant, the Golden Staff crashed into King Warren South’s unprepared shoulder. His armor shattered, his treasured sword flew from his grasp, his face twisted in agony, and his body reeled like a kite with its string cut.

A moment later, he was swept away from the defensive circle the other four had formed—as if he’d become a meteor. Nathan and General Lee hadn’t even reacted to what was happening.

King Warren South was famed for attack, but the best defender here was King Northmore. Yet, against all expectations, Monkey didn’t try to break the defense first—he struck at King Warren South.

What was happening?

No one understood.

No—some did.

Shortbeak, Anna Yang, and Rhino, the Blossom Mountain elders who had journeyed from Dragon’s Pool, saw it clearly.

It was obvious: Monkey was taking revenge, settling an old score with King Warren South—a blood debt from Dragon’s Pool that the king himself didn’t even know.

Perhaps King Warren South had never imagined that joining forces with the Drake King to set a trap for low-level demons at Dragon’s Pool would bring down such a terrifying nemesis. To him, being captured by the Sky River Navy, demoted and left to stew in disgrace, had already been miserable enough. He never dreamed the true disaster was only beginning.

This isn’t finished!

At that instant, Anna Yang suddenly remembered the pitiful leopard on Blossom Mountain. Because of a hunt, Monkey never forgot it even after years of cultivation, and upon returning, the first thing he did was search the entire mountain for it.

Thinking of this, Anna Yang couldn’t help but feel a touch of sympathy for King Warren South.

Heavenly generals colluding with demons for military merit was nothing unusual in the Heavenly Court—just something never spoken aloud. King Warren South did what everyone did, but he had the misfortune to cross paths with Sun Wukong.

In short, King Warren South was simply unlucky.

Anyone marked by the pathologically grudging Handsome Monkey King rarely met a good end.

At this moment, apart from the Blossom Mountain elders who had followed Monkey from Dragon’s Pool, everyone else was clueless, still stunned by what had just happened.

Before they could recover, before King Warren South’s bloodied body could hit the ground, Monkey vanished from above and reappeared on the earth.

His grip tightened on the Golden Staff, aiming at King Warren South’s landing spot. He bared his teeth and spat out, “Do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for you?”

“Why… me…?”

“Because of Dragon’s Pool! Prepare to die!”

In the next moment, the Golden Staff swept out with brutal force.

“Because of Dragon’s Pool… because of Dragon’s Pool…” Drake King’s jaw dropped wide enough to fit an apple, his eyes nearly popping out.

Because of Dragon’s Pool… because of Dragon’s Pool…

Could it be any clearer?

In this moment, he was certain—the Handsome Monkey King before him was the very Cavalry Marshal from Dragon’s Pool years ago. More than that, he knew Monkey would never let go of this grudge.

Recalling how he’d tormented Monkey back then, and seeing Monkey’s current cultivation, Drake King’s legs gave out and he collapsed to the ground.

Next, he saw King Warren South sent flying, his armor scattering like leaves beneath the heavy blow.

After two strikes, King Warren South’s shoulder blade was shattered, at least six ribs broken, his body drenched in blood—he had lost consciousness completely. Once again, he shot through the air like a meteor, only this time, instead of falling earthward, he soared skyward.

When he reached the highest point, Monkey appeared before him, Golden Staff raised, every ounce of strength behind it.

“Stop—!” came a shout from afar.

It was Nathan Young, first to react.

Turning, Monkey saw the Celestial Sash and Demon-Binding Cord!

Getting caught by either was no joke.

With no other choice, Monkey dodged away.

In that moment, as King Warren South’s battered body began its slow descent, Nathan Young caught him midair.

He hurriedly checked King Warren South’s pulse, finally letting out a breath of relief.

His breathing was faint—one more blow and he’d be beyond saving. Luckily, Nathan had stopped the final strike.

Monkey hovered in front of Nathan, Golden Staff pointed at him, barking, “Let go! If you insist on saving him, don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”

“What grudge do you have with him, to strike so viciously?”

Monkey sneered, “Do I need a grudge? Heaven’s troops kill demons, demons kill Heaven’s troops—what more reason do I need?”

Monkey didn’t say more, but everyone could see this was far more than a simple clash of sides. He’d never attacked the other Heavenly Kings this ruthlessly.

If it were just a matter of opposing sides, King Warren South—now unconscious and no threat—would have been ignored. But Monkey didn’t; he was out for blood.

Seeing King Warren South insensible, Drake King’s face went pale, his whole body trembling.

The monkey who’d once been a mere upstart had grown into a great demon king—his mad revenge was just beginning. Anyone involved in Dragon’s Pool, be they Heavenly King, Marshal, or Demon King, would not escape.

He truly never forgets a grudge.
