"Ethan Gu, are you crazy? Your wounds aren't healed, so why did you come to Healer's Sanctuary?"
Ethan Gu kicked a man away and said in a deep voice, "If you weren't so useless, I wouldn't have come!"
Maxwell Jing twitched his lips. "Useless? How am I useless?" He caught sight of a poison needle flying in from the side and quickly knocked it away with his folding fan, then shouted, a bit flustered, "Watch out!"
Ethan Gu couldn't help but give a bitter smile. He seemed to have triggered the poison inside him, now feeling dizzy and weak, so his senses weren't as sharp. Shaking his head to clear it a little, he said, "This place is full of toxins. If you'd just learned some medical skills, I wouldn't have to worry so much!"
Maxwell Jing replied speechlessly, "Did you forget the Guild Master is immune to all poisons now?"
At these words, Ethan Gu fell silent. He knew Damien Gray was now immune to all poisons, but he didn't know the person behind him was also immune. Otherwise, why would he bother coming to suffer? The thought made him angry.
Another wave of dizziness struck, and Ethan Gu didn't notice as he was punched, coughing up a mouthful of blood.
"Brother Ethan..."
Yuna Ye didn't hesitate and rushed over. Seeing Ethan Gu injured, Maxwell Jing got distracted and was punched as well.
"Damn it, how are they so strong?" Some of these Toxic Thralls had inner power, some didn't, but all were as strong as giants—a normal person couldn't possibly withstand a single punch!
Maxwell Jing staggered back several steps before steadying himself—he was right at the edge of the cliff. One more step and he'd fall!
Just as he was about to help Ethan Gu, the earth beneath his feet suddenly gave way and his body plummeted downward. Ethan Gu darted over and grabbed him.
Yuna Ye didn't know any martial arts. As she ran over, she was struck by a Toxic Thrall and sent flying. Ethan Gu quickly reached out with his other hand to catch her. Fortunately, she'd taken Ethan's medicine earlier—otherwise, she would've died from the blow or the poison!
A poisoned and injured man holding onto two people, with a horde of Toxic Thralls behind them—this was far from ordinary danger!
Dirt and rocks kept slipping away. Yuna Ye's face turned pale with fear. Ethan Gu glanced behind him—strangely, all the Toxic Thralls had vanished. He frowned, thinking, these creatures had lost their minds; maybe, not seeing anyone standing, they assumed everyone was dead?
Ethan Gu's body slid forward, dislodging more dirt and rocks. Maxwell Jing looked down—he couldn't see the bottom through the mist. Looking up, he saw the earth was loose, unable to bear their weight!
Suddenly, Ethan Gu felt his grip loosen. His expression changed as he clung tightly to Maxwell Jing's hand, shouting in frustration and anger, "Maxwell Jing, if you dare let go, I'll jump! I always keep my word!"
Maxwell Jing quickly grabbed his hand again. Seeing the urgency in Ethan's eyes, he said weakly, "I know."
Surveying their surroundings, he added, "This is just an illusion created by a formation, not a real cliff—we won't die from the fall..." Under Ethan Gu's glare, his voice faded, and he frowned, his head aching. If this kept up, all three of them would fall!
Ethan Gu had no intention of letting go. It might not be a real cliff, but who knew if it was even more terrifying than the real thing? Who could say what would happen if they fell?
Yuna Ye bit her lip and said, "Brother Ethan, you should let me go. Please, don't let anything happen to my father!"
Maxwell Jing glanced at her. From the very first moment, he knew this woman was truly kind-hearted.
Ethan Gu looked at Maxwell Jing, then suddenly gritted his teeth and flung Yuna Ye upward with all his strength. Unable to withstand the force, the earth collapsed and both men fell down together!
It took Yuna Ye a long moment to react. She crawled to the cliff edge and looked down, but couldn't see either of them. "Brother Ethan..." The only reply was her own echo.
As he kept falling, Maxwell Jing couldn't tell if it was real or just an illusion. "Ethan Gu, you really just let me die—how ruthless!" Though he said this, his tone was light.
Ethan Gu still gripped his hand. "It's not that I want to see you die—my arm's injured, I can't pull you up!" Maxwell Jing was just unlucky; Ethan's dominant hand was his right, and seeing him fall, his first instinct was to reach with his right hand, forgetting it was wounded!
"Then you could've let go—why'd you come down with me?" If he'd let go, he could've pulled Yuna Ye up!
Ethan Gu turned to him, a bit dazed. "Didn't I say I'd never let go of your hand?"
Maxwell Jing's heart skipped a beat—did he remember something? He looked up at Ethan, only to see him faint. "Ethan..."
When he came to, Maxwell Jing felt pain all over. He shielded his eyes from the blinding sunlight and saw Ethan Gu lying on top of him. Frowning, he said, "No wonder it hurts—he's heavy!" Good thing it wasn't a real cliff, or he'd be dead for sure.
Thinking of what Ethan Gu had said before, Maxwell Jing sighed and smiled helplessly. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened—he'd just never forgotten completely. The things he'd already forgotten, he would never remember again, and those feelings would never return. After so many disappointments, he'd learned not to take things too seriously.
He reached out to help Ethan Gu up, but felt something wet on his hand. When he looked, his hand was covered in blood. In the sunlight, the blood shimmered gold, strangely beautiful. Maxwell Jing's hand trembled; though the sun was bright, he felt a chill all over.
"Mmm..."
Seeing Ethan Gu wake up, Maxwell Jing wiped the blood from his hand onto his clothes and helped him sit up.
Ethan Gu leaned weakly against him, the sunlight too harsh for his eyes, so he closed them. Still feeling dizzy, he asked feebly, "Where are we?"
Maxwell Jing reached out and removed the mask from Ethan's face. Seeing his pale complexion, something flickered in Maxwell's eyes. He looked around and frowned, "I don't know. Over there is a row of stone chambers."
