Rather Kill Wrongly Than Let Any Slip Away

The child sat blank-faced, staring at Serena, not crying or showing any emotion—just fixing his gaze on her, eyes never blinking, like a doll without a soul.

He might not be crying, but Serena didn’t dare move far from him. After shooting down the assassins nearby, she hurried back to cradle the child. Meeting his dead, hollow eyes, Serena couldn’t help but gently reassure him: “Don’t be afraid, I won’t abandon you.”

The child’s eyes shifted, but his face stayed blank—like a mechanical doll.

Serena sighed and tried to lift the child with one arm, only for her injured arm to give out. She nearly dropped him—startled, she quickly switched arms and finally managed to hold him securely.

“Move fast, we’re going into the city first.” Serena carried the child and squeezed toward the city gate, calling out to the Eighteen Riders.

This was the city gate—official soldiers would arrive soon, and the chaos wouldn’t last long. Clearly, the attackers realized this too; their assault grew fiercer, charging forward without fear of death, determined not to stop until Serena and the child were dead.

“Damn it, we can’t move at all.” The gate was still a mess, people crying and shouting, packed together. Carrying a child, Serena couldn’t push ahead—after just a few steps, she was shoved toward the crowd’s edge.

And Serena didn’t dare squeeze deeper, afraid that an assassin might be lurking in the crowd, ready to strike at her or the child.

Just as Serena, holding the child, was about to be forced out to the edge, Master Graves finished off the killers blocking her way and fought his way over to her.

Yes, he killed his way through. Anyone who didn’t dodge was cut down, whether they were assassins or innocent bystanders—Master Graves didn’t care. In his eyes, there was only Serena. Anyone who got in the way of protecting her deserved to die!

“Eldest Miss.” After fighting his way through, Master Graves finally reached Serena, but standing before her, he seemed uneasy.

“It’s fine.” Serena glanced at the bloody trail behind Master Graves, then silently looked away.

Better to kill by mistake than let any threat slip through!

Serena knew Master Graves’s actions weren’t right, but in this kind of chaos, only that kind of ruthlessness could keep her safe.

Master Graves let out a quiet sigh of relief, then shielded Serena and pushed forward. Suddenly, the packed crowd parted to either side like the Red Sea, leaving a clear path for Serena and Master Graves.

No one dared block Master Graves, not after seeing his bloody methods—everyone was too afraid of being killed instantly by this 'killer god.'

Serena quietly exhaled in relief, thinking to herself: People really do bully the gentle and fear the cruel.

Officers always show up after everything’s over. Lyndaria’s officials were no exception—Serena had already entered the city and the Eighteen Riders had taken care of most of the attackers before they finally arrived.

Spring’s pretty face was pale with fear, but before the officers arrived she helped Serena onto a carriage. “Miss, get in the carriage—I’ll handle things here.”

With such a major incident, someone had to step up. Today’s attack was clearly aimed at Serena—whether for cooperating with Lyndaria’s government or for her own safety, the whole matter had to be investigated to the end.

“Mm.” Serena climbed into the carriage with the child. Spring, though curious, didn’t ask about the child—she simply lowered the curtain and told the driver to take them to the Princess Royal’s side courtyard.

Feng Jin lived in a separate courtyard at the Princess Royal’s residence, with its own entrance—a setup Left Shore had insisted on. Princess Royal Helena hadn’t liked it, but she had no choice, which now made it easier for Serena and the child to get in.

Left Shore had already sent someone to wait at the gate, knowing Serena was coming. As soon as the carriage arrived, the doors swung open, letting them drive straight into the courtyard.

Left Shore had to guard Feng Jin, and Summer couldn’t leave his side, so a junior servant named Nina Xuan came to meet Serena. "I am Nina Xuan, sent by Young Master Left Shore to welcome you. Please follow me."

Nina Xuan led the way, showing no curiosity at all about the child in Serena’s arms, as if she didn’t see him.

Feng Jin’s residence wasn’t large—it only took a moment to reach it. As they arrived at the door, Left Shore and the Snow Wolves, hearing movement, came out together.

"Awoo..." The Snow Wolves let out a weak howl at Serena, its eyes bloodshot from lack of sleep. Left Shore looked haggard, his beard unshaven, the picture of exhaustion.

"You finally came," Left Shore rasped, his voice hoarse from exhaustion.

“What’s wrong? Did Feng Jin’s illness get worse?” Serena asked, worried—she knew Feng Jin had been sick for a long time, and she hated to see such a small child suffering for so long, undoing all his hard-won recovery.

She wondered how long it would take to nurse him back to health this time.

Serena walked inside, Left Shore following half a step behind. He said quietly, "It’s not worse, but he’s still not getting better. He’s vomited several times these last few days—he’s grown so thin, like a sick kitten, and has no energy at all."

Left Shore blamed himself for everything. If only he’d been stronger, he could have protected Feng Jin and wouldn’t have had to send him to Westlyn, where he’s suffered so much.

Feng Jin had been lively and adorable, but after arriving in Westlyn, he’d become listless and sick. Left Shore couldn’t help but feel that something about this place was wrong for him.

Left Shore was so focused on Feng Jin that he didn’t notice the child in Serena’s arms. Serena herself had gotten used to carrying the child everywhere, and forgot to introduce him—until the boy started whimpering as Left Shore approached, drawing everyone’s attention.

“Who is this?” Left Shore was startled, his aura flaring unconsciously. The child trembled violently, lips quivering, biting down hard, his big eyes filled with terror and unease, sweat beading on his forehead—he was on the edge of a breakdown.

“Left Shore—put away your killing intent, and step back two paces.” Serena quickly soothed the child. The Snow Wolves, puzzled but quick to catch on, also retreated, stretching its neck to get a better look.

“Miss…” Mira Tang heard the commotion and stepped out from the inner room, confused to see Serena and Left Shore standing apart.

“Don’t be afraid, don’t worry… it’s all right, this big brother isn’t a bad person.” With Serena’s gentle comfort, the child gradually calmed down—as long as Left Shore didn’t get close, he was fine.

“What’s going on?” Left Shore frowned, clearly unhappy.

Did he really look that scary? Feng Jin was afraid of him, and now this new child was too.

“It’s a long story—I’ll explain later.” Serena’s arms were aching from holding the child, so Mira Tang quickly stepped forward to help. "Miss, let me take him."

“Wait—” Serena was about to warn her not to get too close, but saw the child wasn’t afraid of Mira Tang at all.
