Unexpected Visitors

No matter his origins, he now had the people closest to his heart.

No matter what happened, he would always stay by their side and protect them.

Because they were truly a family!

After that day, Alexander Hayes began investigating the Marquis Valor Estate. Lily Evans didn’t interfere much, since this matter could touch upon Alexander’s origins—if she brought it up carelessly, it might only upset him.

While Alexander pursued his investigation, Lily’s life carried on as usual.

Meanwhile, news from the Marquis Valor Estate confirmed that Marquis Weiyuan had indeed not divorced Madam Lou.

But the relationship between the couple had plummeted to freezing point, and Marquis Weiyuan never visited Madam Lou anymore.

Now, the only communication between them was through Lucy Lou.

After Madam Lou completely lost favor, Lucy Lou’s standing in Marquis Weiyuan’s eyes remained unaffected.

Unknowingly, Lily Evans was already five months pregnant.

The weather was getting hotter, and her belly was growing bigger. After finishing her disguise, Lily Evans donned Professor Jade Evans’s oversized robes and fretted: her belly was almost impossible to hide now, so she couldn’t keep teaching at the Academy.

“Lola, my belly’s showing. In a few days, I won’t be able to go to the Academy anymore. You’re now very familiar with the daily affairs and can teach independently. Once I take leave, I’ll leave everything at the Academy to you.” Lily said.

Lola responded solemnly, helping Lily Evans tidy her clothes.

These would be Lily Evans’s last few visits to the Academy before giving birth. She finished up the remaining tasks, then planned to take a long break in the name of recuperation.

As usual, Lily Evans went to the Academy. It was almost early summer, and the temperature wasn’t too high yet.

When Lily Evans and Lola arrived at the Academy, they saw Martin Wu standing at the gate, reading a book while waiting for the professors to arrive so he could collect the class assignments and distribute them to his classmates.

“Good morning, Professor Evans! Good morning, Professor Dangdang!” Martin Wu greeted them warmly, then followed them inside. He asked Lola a few questions before leaving with the assignments.

“Professor Evans, I can handle today’s class on my own. You should rest in your office and take care of the remaining Academy matters,” Lola said considerately, worried Lily Evans might tire herself out.

“Alright, you go ahead,” Lily Evans nodded, letting Lola teach while she stayed in the office to handle Academy business.

Class hadn’t even ended yet when a young page from the Academy rushed in, his face flushed with excitement.

“What’s the matter? Why are you so flustered?” Lily Evans frowned at the young page.

“Professor Evans, there are distinguished guests at the Academy!” The page was beside himself with excitement, gesturing wildly. “Grand Secretary Gregory Gu and Imperial Grand Tutor Gregory Gu Jr. have come to visit you! Their carriage is already at the Academy gate!”

Principal Gregory Gu and Gregory Gu Jr. are here?

Lily Evans frowned slightly. She’d cut ties with Gregory Gu Jr. long ago; except for that one time she visited Grand Secretary Gregory Gu to help Bai Piwu find his daughter, she’d had no further contact with the Gu family. Why would they suddenly come looking for her at the Academy?

Although she couldn’t stand Gregory Gu Jr., out of respect for Principal Gregory Gu, Lily Evans couldn’t be too rude. She said, “Let’s go, time to greet our guests.”

The page left with Lily Evans, heading toward the Academy’s main gate.

As Lily Evans walked, she saw the Gu family approaching.

Several attendants carried a bamboo sedan chair, with Principal Gregory Gu seated atop. Gregory Gu Jr. walked beside it; when he saw Lily Evans approaching, his eyes lit up, then quickly dimmed with disappointment.
