The Tiger Shows Its Claws

The chubby middle-aged cop, who had just been watching the spectacle, finally realized that if Howard Kay Jr. kept going, he really would beat Yvonne Chow to death. He hurried forward and tried to stop him, saying, "Mr. Kay, please, you have to stop! If you keep beating her, she'll really die! I won't be able to explain this!"

"Cut the crap! Today I'm going to beat this bitch to death! Anyone who tries to butt in gets the same treatment! Damn it!" Howard Kay Jr. snarled, kicking Yvonne Chow even harder. His fancy Italian leather shoes hammered her head and stomach, leaving her mouth full of blood, knocking out her front teeth, and bruising her face so badly she was unrecognizable.

The overweight cop realized he'd hit a wall, but when he thought about Howard Kay Jr.'s background, he knew he couldn't afford to cross him. Still, Yvonne Chow was about to be beaten to death—her cries for help were getting weaker, and her hands, which had been fighting back, were growing limp.

"Mr. Kay, please, just stop! I'm begging you! If you kill her here, I really can't explain it! And Mayor Kay—he won't be able to cover for you either!" The chubby cop forced himself to step in and plead again.

"Screw you—Gordon Gao, who the hell do you think you are? Just a little precinct chief, a nobody cop, and you dare to meddle in my business? I'm telling you, today I'm going to beat this woman to death right here, and there's nothing you can do about it! Hmph!" Howard Kay Jr. ignored Gordon Gao's pleas and mocked him ruthlessly.

"Uh—" Gordon Gao was humiliated again, his face turning red and white from Howard's insults, but he couldn't retaliate. Frustrated and helpless, he glanced over at Helen, hoping she might intervene since it was obvious Howard was beating Yvonne over her. Gordon sidled up to Helen and whispered desperately, "Miss, please, could you help? Maybe you can talk Mr. Kay down. If he really kills her, I'll be in big trouble!"

Helen frowned at Gordon Gao's pitiful look, then at Yvonne Chow—who had been beaten so badly her own mother wouldn't recognize her. Feeling a pang of sympathy, Helen was about to speak up for Yvonne when Shawn Young suddenly interrupted coldly, "Why should we help you? Who are you, anyway?"

Gordon Gao was taken aback, thinking Shawn Young was questioning his identity. He quickly pulled out his badge and blurted, "I-I'm Gordon Gao, chief of the Dongfeng District Police Station in Westwood City!"

"Oh! Hmph—so you do know you're a cop? Watching someone get beaten in broad daylight right in front of you, and you don't step in? What kind of police chief are you? And you brought a dozen officers, but not one of you dares to stop this? Do you even deserve to call yourselves protectors of the people?" Shawn Young deliberately raised his voice, mocking Gordon Gao, trying to draw the attention of the crowd.

Gordon Gao's face turned blue with embarrassment as Shawn Young called him out. He glanced at his dozen officers, who stared at him awkwardly, their faces just as uncomfortable. The crowd, hearing Shawn's loud rebuke, all turned to look, their eyes filled with scorn and contempt.

"Kid, who do you think you are? You dare to lecture me? Believe it or not, I'll arrest you for interfering with police business!" Gordon Gao couldn't stand the crowd's contempt and snapped at Shawn Young, blaming him for his predicament.

"Heh—really? So telling the truth makes me a suspect for obstructing police work now? What kind of law is that? Is this how the Westwood City police serve the people—letting real criminals run wild and even helping them bully the weak? Do you guys deserve to be called the people's police?" Shawn Young sneered, his words stirring up the crowd. Some people started to heckle, others whistled, and the scene grew chaotic.

Gordon Gao couldn't take Shawn Young's mockery anymore. He strode over, flashed his badge in Shawn's face, and barked, "Kid—you've incited the crowd and obstructed police work. I'm detaining you—by law!"

"Screw you—detain your ass! Piss me off and I'll kill you myself!" Shawn Young shouted, boiling with rage.

"Oh yeah? You dare defy the police? Do you know what crime that is? You're actually challenging the state authorities!" Gordon Gao was hoping Shawn would resist, so he'd have a reason to arrest him.

"Challenge your ass—get lost! Scum!" Shawn Young couldn't stand Gordon Gao's disgusting attitude and spat out the words, then kicked him hard in the gut—"Bang!"—sending Gordon rolling across the ground like a tumbleweed.

Shawn Young's kick was like poking a hornet's nest. Gordon Gao's dozen officers instantly surrounded Shawn, moving with surprising speed.

"Back off! If any of you touch me, you'll regret it!" Shawn Young roared at the cops, having no sympathy for these bullies. His voice thundered, intimidating the officers. They looked at Shawn's arrogant, domineering stance and realized—if Shawn didn't have a powerful background, he'd be dead meat! The group hesitated, exchanging glances, but no one dared to arrest him.

Shawn Young snorted coldly, secretly thinking how these guys only bully the weak and fear the strong. He wasn't in the mood to mess with them—he still hadn't found Wendy Wang or May Chang. Striding over to the crawling Gordon Gao, Shawn pulled a red badge from his pocket and shoved it in front of him, saying coldly, "Take a good look at who I am!"

Gordon Gao's eyes went wide as he stared at the three shocking "a"s and the words "Security Bureau" on Shawn Young's badge. He was terrified, sweat instantly breaking out on his forehead.

Shawn Young snorted, shoved the badge into Gordon Gao's hands, and said, "Look carefully—is this badge fake?" Now Shawn finally understood what it meant: "If a tiger doesn’t bare its fangs, people think it’s just a sick cat!"

Gordon Gao, hands trembling, carefully inspected the red badge, sweat pouring down his forehead and even soaking his back. He knew for sure now—Shawn Young's badge was the real deal, which meant Shawn had the legendary "license to kill." Shawn's background was so powerful he could easily get Gordon killed and walk away scot-free!

"C-Chief—I'm so sorry, I-I didn't know you'd be here—I'm..." Gordon Gao stammered, face pale with fear, terrified Shawn Young might kill him in a fit of rage. If that happened, he'd die for nothing—and Shawn could even frame him for treason, which would be a total disaster!
