Chapter 623: Death's Summoning

Leon actually knew a thing or two about the Eye of the Undead...

In that empty, decaying library of the apocalypse, Leon had come across countless records about the Eye of the Undead—even its formation and destruction were documented in meticulous detail.

Where necrotic miasma is thick, there's a chance the Eye of the Undead will be born. But during the peak of the magical age, the Eye was so fragile that most were destroyed before they could even finish forming.

A fully matured and awakened Eye of the Undead can open a Gate of the Undead, connecting to the undead plane. From the moment it awakens, an endless stream of undead pours through the gate, continuing until the Eye is utterly spent and fades away—only then does the gate finally close.

Yet, according to the records, an awakened Eye of the Undead is almost never destroyed midway. Every time one appears, it heralds a catastrophic undead calamity.

The undead emerging from the plane sweep through all living things in their path. The smallest disaster caused by the Eye of the Undead wiped out five cities, and centuries later, when one awakened in a minor kingdom, that kingdom was swallowed whole by an endless Sea of the Undead.

Each time the Eye of the Undead appears, it only disappears when its power is exhausted. By then, the undead that have poured through the Gate become a disaster in themselves—many Title Archmages and Sword Saints fall in the chaos.

The only recorded instance of someone destroying an awakened Eye of the Undead was Bain of the Ivory Tower!

For a long time, this event remained an absolute secret within the Ivory Tower. Only a few vague lines survived in that empty library of the apocalypse.

According to the records, no one knew exactly how it happened—a fully awakened Eye of the Undead appeared not far outside the Ivory Tower, and a horde of undead surrounded the institution. Everyone thought that even the Ivory Tower, at its peak, would be devastated just trying to survive this undead calamity.

But then Bain, wielding the Death Tome, charged straight to the Eye of the Undead alone. When he returned, the Eye had been destroyed, and with the Gate of Death cut off, the undead already unleashed barely managed to damage the Ivory Tower.

The handful of words Leon found in the library of the apocalypse were the very secrets the Ivory Tower had suppressed for years.

It was the Death Tome that Bain used to destroy the Eye of the Undead—more precisely, the Chapter of Truth within the Death Tome!

As the bane of all evil, the Chapter of Truth is the natural nemesis of abominations like the Eye of the Undead.

This snippet was written in the diary of a highly ranked Heavenly Mage within the Ivory Tower. Unfortunately, it gave no details—only that Bain destroyed the Eye of the Undead using the Chapter of Truth from the Death Tome.

The moment Leon saw the Eye of the Undead, he remembered all these things. But without the specifics, he had no idea how it was done. Besides, Bain wielded a fully completed Death Tome—unlike Leon’s, which only had three modules fused.

The difference in power couldn’t be more stark. Leon couldn’t even unleash the true might of the Death Tome yet, and as for the Chapter of Truth—even though it had been fused with the tome, it hadn’t truly become one with it.

Leon didn’t have Bain’s strength as a Heavenly Mage either. With so many unknowns, and the Chapter of Truth not fully integrated, Leon wasn’t about to take reckless risks.

But now, things were at their limit. The level-38 Death Knight hadn’t even used its third rune spell, and the undead pouring endlessly from the Gate of Death were like a relentless death knell.

Once Leon made up his mind, he never hesitated. He’d painstakingly cleared out more than half the undead—just to use the Chapter of Truth from the Death Tome!

But before Leon could even open the Death Tome, the Death Knight raised its sword once again, and the long-awaited third rune spell finally appeared!

The final rune on the sword lit up, and then countless lights shimmered across the ground. The corpses of slain zombies, Liches, Bone Demons, Skeletal Warriors, Bone Warden fragments, and other shattered undead began to stir.

In that glow, the broken bones and corpses seemed to be reassembled by invisible, dexterous hands. Bone Demons, Skeletal Warriors, Bone Wardens—all smashed to pieces—rose again. Even several level-30 Skeleton Kings, towering and cloaked in tattered capes, wielding five- or six-meter-long scythes, emerged from the bone fragments.

A horde of zombies reeking of rot, necromancers clutching staffs, and Liches crawled out from heaps of half-burned corpses. Then came a few diminutive Undead Shamans, waving their staffs and casting buffs on the surrounding undead.

With a mere gesture from the Death Knight, two thousand undead appeared out of thin air!

In terms of combat strength, they easily rivaled the three or four thousand undead from earlier—especially the Skeleton Kings who commanded the skeletal legions, and the Liches casting buff spells. Their presence boosted the undead’s power by at least thirty or forty percent!

"Undead Resurrection... No, damn it, this is the Death Knight’s ultimate skill—Death Summon! It can turn corpses into undead, revive fallen undead, and if there are enough bodies, even summon elite undead!"

Lord Shaun’s scream was so shrill it changed pitch, and Anderfa’s three faces all wore the same expression—utter despair.

"Merlin, what the hell is this place? How did you piss off something like that? Evil Aura, Death Summon—damn it, just what is that Death Knight’s story?!"

Leon could only manage a bitter smile. At least Lord Shaun hadn’t seen the Death Knight use Death Redemption yet.

A Death Knight with three of the top-tier Death Knight skills, all mastered to an absurd level—there’s no other explanation except for outrageously bad luck.

Any one of these rune skills could turn the tide of battle; mastering even one would make you a once-in-a-millennium genius among humans. To master three, and wield them at such power—even Leon, with knowledge thousands of years ahead of his era, couldn’t comprehend it.

This sudden turn of events shocked not just Leon—Hubert the Dragonblood Orc was gasping for breath and howling in pain.

"Master Merlin, save me! I can’t hold on! Your loyal servant Hubert doesn’t want to leave you..."

Even Hubert’s golden-red skin couldn’t hide his pale face. He’d just given his all, and who could’ve guessed—after slaughtering thousands of undead, an even nastier horde showed up.

Not far away, Reina the Frost Dragon was stunned, too. She couldn’t even spare a thought for Hubert’s wailing—her claws were trembling.

Leon ignored Hubert, knowing the orc’s skin was thick enough to survive almost anything. Even if Reina the Frost Dragon was torn apart by undead, Hubert probably wouldn’t die.

Leon’s eyes locked on the distant Death Knight, and he called out to Lord Shaun.
