Tokyo Underground City

Staring at the shocking scene before him, Shawn Young finally realized that the legends were true!

Once, while browsing a military history website online, Shawn Young stumbled upon a special report about the 'Tokyo Underground City.' He read it with great interest at the time.

That report described how, after World War II, the defeated Japanese government reflected deeply on their loss. Realizing that Japan's small territory and lack of strategic depth had led to such heavy losses under the Allies' saturation bombing, they feared that if war broke out again, the entire country could be wiped out. So, digging underground became the Japanese government's top strategic priority.

Thus, this massive underground project was squeezed out of the Japanese government's 'black budget,' starting with the Tokyo subway as the central axis and expanding to Japan's most critical cities. The country's economic and military core was concentrated dozens, even hundreds or thousands of meters underground. The deeper the excavation, the more important and sensitive the area. No one knows how many earth-shattering secrets Japan hides in these Tokyo-based underground bases!

Some mysterious subway tracks lead to unknown destinations. These tracks branch off from the main subway lines and aren't marked on any maps, but construction records show these secret projects are massive—sometimes even bigger than the main subway itself!

This means the scale of these secret tunnels far exceeds that of Tokyo’s main subway lines. Yet, if you check any current subway map or public construction archive, you’ll find no record of these mysterious works. For example, there’s a library in Tokyo with eight underground floors, six of which are strictly off-limits to the public. A magazine once tried to investigate but was repeatedly turned away.

After World War II, the Japanese government kept Tokyo’s underground secrets hidden so that, in case of a ground battle, these tunnels could be used as covert bases. During the Cold War, they guarded these secrets out of fear of nuclear strikes from the Soviet Union, China, or even the United States. Nowadays, they’re worried about missile attacks from neighboring countries!

And when it comes to neighboring countries, the biggest threats are obviously China and North Korea! Clearly, the Japanese government is still preparing for a major war. That’s the ultimate purpose behind building the Tokyo Underground City!

He saw those futuristic, super-advanced bullet trains parked deep in a massive, round, hub-like underground chamber. Radiating out from the center were countless expensive tunnels, sloping up toward the surface—who knows where they lead? Such a colossal underground project must have cost the Japanese government a fortune in 'black budget' funds!

Shawn Young went from shock to awe, feeling a chill down his spine at the sheer madness of the Japanese.

Shawn Young quietly activated his 'Celestial Eye' and glanced around. He saw that all the underground tunnels leading to the surface were marked with department names like 'Space Agency,' 'Intelligence Bureau,' 'Energy Division,' and 'Materials Department.' Shawn finally understood—the underground base was connected to all of Japan's critical agencies. The strategic significance was staggering!

Staring at the massive, sprawling underground facilities, Shawn couldn't help but follow the researchers into one of the tunnels, a little dazed. Using his 'Celestial Eye,' he scanned the corridor and discovered it belonged to the 'Biochemical Research Directorate.'

As he walked deeper, Shawn saw many partitioned rooms lining the corridor. Most were filled with experimental equipment, some were rest areas for researchers, others housed the Self-Defense Forces' special units, and there was even a kitchen.

Shawn followed the researchers, not looking around openly but scanning everything quickly with his 'Celestial Eye,' silently memorizing the details. He noticed that advanced surveillance cameras lined the walls, monitoring every passage and corner. There were also several 'Metal Storm' defense systems installed, making the security far stricter than anything above ground.

The deeper he went, the more Shawn felt the sheer size and technological level of this underground military base—it was honestly terrifying! And this was just the 'Biochemical Research Directorate.' The security here was on a level he'd never seen before!

Shawn cursed inwardly. Even if he found Ryosuke Eguchi, getting him out safely would be nearly impossible—unless a miracle happened!

But Shawn wasn't about to count on miracles. He was getting anxious, knowing he couldn't pull this off alone. What he needed most was detailed intel on the base and a way in—he'd need help from professionals. His mind raced, trying to figure out how to contact Han Feng, Jade Swann, and the others on the surface so they could help him. What should he do?

Suddenly, inspiration struck. Shawn remembered a high-level Taoist technique he'd recently mastered from the Taiqing Sect. Without hesitation, he clasped his hands, interlocked his fingers, and swiftly formed the 'Heaven-Flipping Seal.' He channeled his Shangqing True Qi and let his consciousness dive deep into the Sea of Illusions, silently chanting: 'Yellow Dragon dives into the sea, Xuan Heaven fades, hold the essence, stars shift, six senses rotate, Heaven's mind opens, by my will, let it be done!'

Right after, Shawn flipped his hands—an arc of faint purple light shot from between his brows, enveloping part of his consciousness and vanishing into the air at light speed, heading for the surface. This was the Taiqing Sect's secret tracking spell: 'Soul Retracing Incantation.'

Its function was to let his consciousness leave his body, unhindered by physical barriers, and travel through space—even thousands of miles away, he could connect with anyone who’d cultivated their spirit. After Shawn cast the spell, his consciousness reached Jade Swann on the surface—she was the only one nearby with a cultivated spirit.

Sure enough, Jade Swann, anxiously waiting at the surface military base with Han Feng and the others, suddenly shuddered as a flash of golden light surged into her mind. She was shocked and almost thought she'd been possessed by a 'body snatcher.'

But soon, Shawn’s image formed in her mind, and he spoke telepathically: 'Xiaoyu, this base is way bigger than I thought! It's like another underground Japan! The security is insane. I need a detailed map—at least enough to know how to escape after we catch Ryosuke Eguchi!'

Receiving Shawn's message, Jade replied with her spiritual power: 'Relax. This is a top-priority mission, so it's not just us—Qianqian, some experts, and a few of our intelligence agents are already undercover in the base! Before I came, I got special authorization from the Military Commission. I can contact them using special methods, and they’ll be ready to back you up.'

'Wait, you guys already knew about this base? And we have people inside?' Shawn was floored.

Jade answered telepathically, 'Yep. This mission has to go perfectly, and even though the Japanese have been working on this underground project for decades, a facility this huge is bound to have some leaks. Our special agents have been undercover for years—it’s finally time to activate them. Hold on, I’ll contact them now, and they’ll meet up with you.'

'Okay, hurry! My spell won’t last much longer!' Shawn’s consciousness urged her.

'Got it, just a sec!' Jade quickly pulled out a small black metal box covered in buttons. She worked it expertly, sending out encrypted signals—the box emitted a series of low-frequency microwaves deep underground, contacting the undercover agents.

Soon, the little black box flashed a red light, signaling it had received a special reply—one of our agents in the underground base had responded. Jade was thrilled; she quickly punched in a set of numbers, using digital codes to relay Shawn's situation to the agent.

With everything set, Jade told Shawn’s consciousness, 'All right, you can get back to your mission. Our people will meet up with you soon, and once you connect, we’ll figure out how to get you out from the surface.'

Shawn received the message and let out a silent sigh of relief. He dispelled the spell, and his consciousness in the Sea of Illusions returned to its usual state.

Just then, the lead researcher reached a room with a thick metal door. In the center was a password verification device glowing green—clearly, only those with special clearance could enter.

The head researcher, apparently the team leader, pulled out a blue metal keycard and swiped it through the machine—'beep beep.'

The heavy metal door slowly rose, revealing a spacious, brightly lit corridor. Shawn glanced inside and saw an impressively equipped laboratory, bustling with researchers in Biolabs Hazmat Suits.

No one inside came forward to greet Shawn’s group; the researchers were clearly used to this routine. They filed into the lab one after another, and Shawn followed them in.
