You Have No Chance of Beating Me
"Don't be afraid!" Byron White said to her gently.
Then he turned to Jillian Ye and said, "Jillian, just let go! Matters of the heart can't be forced."
"Are you really this heartless?" Jillian Ye's acting wasn't very convincing—she sounded a bit stiff.
"There was never any love, so how could I be heartless?" Byron White replied. "Just consider it my fault."
Jillian Ye's eyes reddened, and she turned and ran away.
Byron White looked guilty, then asked Grace, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, President." Grace replied. "Are you really going to break off the engagement?"
"Yes."
"But I..." Grace frowned, looking pained. "I really can't bear to disappoint my fiancé..."
"Grace, you don't have to force yourself," Byron White said. "Just follow your heart."
"I..." Grace bit her lip. "The Assessment Period starts tomorrow. I want to focus on preparing for it, and not think about anything else for now."
Wow, you really are indecisive and sentimental...
Byron White held back and said, "Alright, take your time to think it over. No matter how long it takes, I'll wait for you."
"President, I'll head back now." Grace put on her best 'I just want to be alone' face.
Byron White gazed at her in melancholy. "Grace..."
Grace didn't stop and walked away quickly.
Just as she was about to reach the dormitory area, Felix Xi caught up to her.
Grace turned to look at him and asked, "What do you want?"
"What are you up to?" Felix Xi asked.
"Going back to sleep."
"I mean, what are you trying to do by keeping the President hanging like this?"
"Dude, you're seriously overthinking this!" Grace said. "You see things clearer than anyone—none of this is about what I want, it's all about what he wants, okay?"
Felix Xi frowned. "Then what does he want?"
"His sister fell for my fiancé. She even traveled all the way to the Blue Moon Kingdom to chase after him, tried to seduce him, and even thought about drugging him!"
"His sister? Fell for your fiancé? No way!"
"My fiancé may not be as noble as Byron White, but he's... how should I put it? Any woman would fall for his charm." Grace said.
"So what does that have to do with you and Byron White?"
"He's just trying to lure me away from my fiancé to give his sister a shot! Duh!"
Felix Xi: "That's so melodramatic..."
"Isn't it though?" Grace shrugged helplessly. "So, about that suggestion I made last time—have you thought it over yet?"
"No need to think about it."
"Why not?"
"You don't stand a chance of beating me." He was absolutely certain.
"Huh?" Grace was a little insulted and raised an eyebrow. "Wanna make a bet?"
"What kind of bet?"
"If I win, you have to acknowledge me as your boss from now on, and do whatever I say!" Grace said. "If you win, I'll call you boss!"
"Did you grow up in a street gang or something?"
"Of course not! I'm a bona fide lady from a prestigious family!"
"Then let's bet!"
......
After that, they officially entered the Assessment Period.
During the Assessment Period, both Grace and Felix Xi left the alchemy lab to start preparing for the competition.
Just like in previous years, the first-place winner in the competition could enter the Celestial Library and read for four hours.
......
It wasn't a fair assessment.
Because all Spiritual Alchemists, regardless of rank, were assessed together.
Naturally, the higher-ranked Spiritual Alchemists had the advantage.
So, the lower-ranked Spiritual Alchemists were basically just there for show.
All the attention was focused on the highest-ranked Spiritual Alchemists.
And the highest-ranked, of course, were Grace and Felix Xi.
