High-Level Protective Talisman
Ever since her rebirth, Grace Zhu had been pondering one question.
How could she expose Grace Wan for stealing her Spirit Root?
How could she reveal that Grace Wan had poisoned her mother?
She wanted everyone in the clan, everyone in the city, to know Grace Wan's true colors!
But these things had happened more than ten years ago, and no one knew that the secret art of Spirit Root transplantation even existed in this world.
It was nearly impossible to find evidence.
So why bother playing cat and mouse with Grace Wan any longer?
If this kept up, more people around her might get hurt because of Grace Wan!
She should just kill her outright!
And her accomplice, Leon Wan!
But before that, she had to figure out what kind of force was backing Grace Wan.
If they died, would it bring disaster to the Zhu Clan?
Grace stood at a fork in the garden path, gazing toward Snow Listening Garden for a long moment before slowly heading out of the estate.
Better go find Bianca!
She’d use a Control Talisman on Leon Wan and interrogate him first.
Using a talisman on Leon Wan was way easier than on Liang Mao.
He pretty much came home from the barracks every day.
On his way home, there was a stretch of road in the western suburbs.
When he rode past on horseback, Grace knocked him out with a hidden weapon.
Then the two girls dragged him into a nearby abandoned house. Bianca poured the talisman water into his mouth, squeezed his throat, and made him swallow it.
Then she sat cross-legged and began the spell to control Leon Wan.
Grace planned to do just like last time—wait for him to wake up under hypnosis and then guide the questioning.
But suddenly, a yellow talisman light burst from Leon Wan’s body. Bianca gasped and coughed up a mouthful of blood!
"Bianca!" Grace cried, rushing over to help her up. "Are you okay?"
"I’ll live!" Bianca looked like she’d just survived a disaster. "Someone powerful planted a super high-level Protective Talisman inside him! Luckily, my cultivation dropped to Spirit Practitioner Level Two, or I’d probably be dead!"
Grace glanced at the still-unconscious Leon Wan. "A super high-level Protective Talisman?"
"Yep. You can’t use any talismans on him!" Bianca said. "Unless my cultivation surpasses the one who cast it, it’ll backfire!"
"Sorry, Bianca!" Grace said guiltily. "Not only do I keep troubling you, but this time you even got hurt!"
"Don’t say that!" Bianca replied. "You’re my best friend—saying stuff like that makes us sound like strangers!"
Grace fed her an internal injury pill, frowning at Leon Wan.
"Are you going to kill him?" Bianca asked.
"Can I even kill him?"
"You probably could," Bianca said. "There are two kinds of Protective Talismans—one works against talisman power, the other against spiritual power. His only works against talismans."
Grace thought about it, then shook her head.
Aside from Grace Wan, Leon Wan might be the only one who knows the truth.
He’s more useful alive than dead.
So the two girls just left Leon Wan there and walked away.
At the Imperial Advisor’s place, he checked Bianca’s injuries and said she’d attract suspicion if she returned to the palace wounded, so he summoned Evan Xiao.
Evan healed Bianca, and she was almost as good as new.
When asked how she got hurt, Grace told them everything.
"Looks like there really is a mysterious power behind the Wan family," Evan said. "Just like that Spirit Root transplantation technique, Protective Talismans aren’t something ordinary people can create. Not even Bianca."
