Mom, Come Back

1/4/2026

Seeing Miles Gu and Ethan Yin wake up, Cici jumped in fright: "You... you..."

"Mom, what happened? Why are you crying?" Miles Gu walked up to Cici, saw her crying so hard, and immediately reached out to wipe her tears.

My sweet son's little hands are so soft...

My sweet son wiping my tears—it fills me with joy...

Wait, why am I thinking about this right now!

Suddenly anxious, Cici grabbed Miles Gu and turned him around, quickly checking him for any injuries.

Miles Gu looked exasperated: "Mom, what are you doing?"

Cici looked left and right—this can't be!

There's not a single scratch on his little butt?

I clearly saw a syringe in the child's leg!

At that moment, Cici's heart skipped a beat as she suddenly remembered Rona Muir! She slapped her forehead hard: "Oh no, your godmother..."

"I'm still here, heaven knows, you finally remembered me!" Rona Muir's voice sounded from behind.

Cici looked at Rona Muir apologetically and said, "Rona, I'm sorry, I thought..."

"Enough, as long as you're okay! You scared the three of us half to death! Do you realize the other side had hallucinogens? They injected you in an instant!" After the boys pleaded and coaxed her, Rona Muir chose to go along: "You passed out right away, then cried and screamed in your dream. You really scared us!"

"In a dream?" Cici was stunned. "Could those thugs..."

"There really were thugs outside, and the police are almost here. We've already called them!" Rona Muir cut Cici off. "You rest for a bit, I'll go get ready to meet the police."

As soon as she finished speaking, police cars arrived outside.

Rona Muir sighed inwardly: They really showed up right on time...

Cici froze: "A dream? So all of that was just a dream? But why did it feel so real?"

Miles Gu, with his innocent face, asked Cici, "Mom, what dream? What's real? What did you dream about?"

Looking into Miles Gu's big watery eyes, Cici's heart melted. She hugged Miles tightly and kissed his face several times: "Miles, you're alive! I'm so happy, so happy!"

"Mom..." Ethan Yin sat beside her, looking aggrieved: "I want a hug too!"

Cici reached out and pulled Ethan Yin into her arms too, kissing both of them, her heart aching to the bone.

Rona Muir stood nearby, her eyes slightly wet.

Suddenly, she felt maybe a kind lie isn't such a bad thing after all.

Seeing Cici's maternal instincts kick in again, Rona Muir secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

The police knocked and entered. All four left the room and went to the living room to give their statements.

Since Cici had just been attacked... cough cough... and the kids were still young, Rona Muir did all the explaining.

According to Rona Muir, they'd all been sleeping in the house when suddenly a fight broke out outside, and a group tried to rush in.

To defend herself, Rona Muir grabbed a shotgun and fired a shot. The attackers fired hallucinogen into the house, hitting Cici. Rona called the police, and when the attackers heard someone calling, they retreated...

The statement was full of obvious holes, but strangely, the police didn't care about any of the logic. After questioning, they took some photos and clues, then left.

After the police left, Cici stared at Rona Muir in disbelief: "That's it?"

Rona Muir, Ethan Yin, and Miles Gu all nodded at the same time: "That's it!"

Cici:

Even though they all sounded so certain, why did she still feel something was off?

Well, she'd rather it was just a terrible dream.

Just thinking about Miles Gu dying in her arms to protect her...

Cici suddenly didn't dare think any further!

Cici turned around, squatted down, hugged both kids tightly, and said in a muffled voice: "Boys, sleep with mommy tonight, okay? Mommy can't sleep, so you two, as little men, have to tell me bedtime stories and help mommy fall asleep!"

Ethan Yin:

Miles Gu:

Rona Muir:

After a whole night of chaos, it was almost dawn when Cici finally fell asleep.

Ethan Yin and Miles Gu exchanged a glance, then silently leaned against Cici and closed their eyes.

Yawn... finally, time to sleep...

That sleep was really long and deep.

When Cici opened her eyes, it was already afternoon.

That's right—Cici was woken up by her own stomach growling!

After waking up, the first thing she did was reach for her sons.

She reached out and touched their round little butts, and couldn't help but smile.

Suddenly, she realized that waking up and being able to touch her sons was actually pretty great.

"Mmm... Mommy..." Ethan Yin mumbled in his sleep, making Cici's heart melt all over again.

"Mommy, come back." Ethan Yin kept mumbling in his sleep: "Mommy, come back to China."

Cici, who was playing with her son's little feet, suddenly froze.

China... back to China...

For some reason, she felt unexpectedly resistant to the idea of going back to China.

She kept feeling like she'd lost something—something she wanted to find, but was afraid to.

Why do so many people want her to go back to China?

Max Mo does, Sophie Mo does, and now even Rona Muir, whom she met in France, does too.

And now, there are two more little buns.

Why does everyone want her to go back to China?

What did she lose in China anyway?

But her parents strictly forbade her from returning home—unless she married Max Mo.

But she only saw Max Mo as a brother, with absolutely no romantic feelings.

She knew how good Max Mo had been to her these past three years.

But... isn't it true that kindness isn't only repaid with love?

Max Mo is outstanding—he deserves a truly great girl.

Not her—she's definitely not the best.

China... that country, should she really go and see it?

Cici reached out and stroked Ethan Yin's back, sighed softly, and slowly got out of bed.

Wearing pajamas, she walked to the balcony and looked at the afternoon sun shining on... well... a totally trashed yard. Her mood really wasn't great.

This place is really cursed. She'd just wanted to stay here a few days for a vacation, and look what happened.

Forget it, she'll pack up and head back to downtown Paris this afternoon.

She turned and went to Rona Muir's room.

Well, that girl was still asleep!

Cici sat right next to Rona Muir and pinched her nose.

"Ahhh... are you trying to suffocate me?" Rona Muir woke up gasping, saw Cici, slapped her hand away, rolled over, and tried to keep sleeping.

"Honestly, we should leave today." Just thinking about last night's events made Cici shiver.

"Leave for what! They only trade once a month, you just happened to pick the wrong time! Besides, didn't you finish your company task? They gave you a few days off! Chill, chill, I'm going back to sleep!" Rona Muir muttered. "You think it's easy dodging Sean Kerr? That guy's been learning bad habits from Charles Yin lately, hiding from people all over the place—it's exhausting!"

Cici's eyes flashed. She grabbed Rona Muir's shoulder: "What did you just say? Charles Yin? You know him?"

Come on, sis, of course I do. Isn't he your...

Wait!

Did she say something in her sleep just now?

She's supposed to be pretending not to know Charles Yin!

Rona Muir was suddenly wide awake. She sat up, grinned, and said, "Who in the world doesn't know Charles Yin? He's the guy who controls the global economy! Tsk tsk tsk..."

Cici gave her a long look. "Rona, has anyone ever told you that your acting is really bad?"

Sure enough, Rona's face froze, then she said dejectedly, "Really?"

Cici nodded silently.

Rona Muir sighed to the heavens: "No wonder Sean Kerr never believes a word I say. My acting must really be awful! That's it, I'm going back to the set for a few days to practice! By the way, Cici, have you ever thought about acting? You've got the figure, your face is well cared for, you could probably make it as a fourth-tier actress!"

Hey hey hey, that wasn't what we were talking about!

"Ah, suddenly I'm starving. Cici, let's go eat! I heard there's a good restaurant nearby! Okay, it's settled!" Rona tossed out the words and dashed off to shower and change.

Cici stood there in a daze. "I didn't say anything, did I?"

Ethan Yin and Miles Gu finally woke up too, rubbing their sleepy eyes and looking for Cici. "Mommy..."

Now, whenever Cici saw her two sons, her heart just melted.

"Hey, why aren't you dressed yet? Come on, let's shower and change—it's time to go eat." Just thinking about how her boys hadn't eaten in a day and a night made Cici's heart ache, so she didn't bother asking Rona Muir about Charles Yin anymore.

Seeing Cici being led away by the two little buns, Rona Muir finally breathed a sigh of relief.

That was close, that was close.

After everyone finished getting ready, they each drove away from the house.

Cici didn't forget to call the housekeeping company to send someone to clean up the yard.

Looking at all those holes, it was just depressing!

She had new sod delivered, but seeing all those bloodstains—depressing!

She couldn't help but wonder what the Paris police were even doing!

Such a big case, and they just asked a few questions and let it go?

Cici just couldn't figure it out.

But Rona Muir did have a point—this whole thing involved the underground black market.

The Paris police didn't dare get too involved, or the consequences could be terrifying.

Thinking about how she and the kids were safe, Cici didn't dare provoke those desperados. She decided to let it go.
