Hollowbelly and Lady Bone Wraith

Damn you, fat bastard. You son of a bitch.

The thinner Hell's Registrar kept beating Hollowbelly with his baton. Hollowbelly's body was so battered there wasn't a single patch of good flesh left. He screamed and begged for mercy in agony.

Old Zhao looked deeply troubled. Miss Wen May had already been devoured by the Forest of Wailing, and their handover mission was a failure. Losing such an important ghost prisoner meant they were doomed when they returned.

"Let's just kill him. We're screwed anyway."

Hollowbelly shouted, reaching out. Miss Wen May, who had looked a bit sad, immediately returned to her cold, mocking demeanor. Her laughter was sharp, carrying a hint of cruelty.

The two Hell's Registrars were still trying to figure out how to dodge this huge responsibility, but they couldn't think of a way. Now, they hoisted Hollowbelly up, ready to throw him into the Forest of Wailing.

"No, please, brothers! I have money—lots of money!"

But at this point, Hollowbelly's money was useless. He cried and screamed.

"Heh. Kid, even if we take you back, someone like you will spill everything. Then not only you, but both of us will be screwed too. We might as well just get rid of you and say the resentment in the Forest of Wailing went berserk. We barely made it out alive ourselves."

Just a few centimeters away lay the black earth, radiating a chilling cold. Hollowbelly screamed as the two Hell's Registrars hurled him forward. He crashed onto the black soil with a wretched thud.

Suddenly, thick black mist surged from the ground, instantly coiling around Hollowbelly. He felt a cold so intense it could freeze a man to death invading his body. Wailing voices filled his mind, and waves of resentful intentions nearly burst his skull. Clutching his fat forehead, he screamed in agony.

Blood began to spray from all over Hollowbelly's body, holes opening up everywhere. The black mist kept pouring in as he shrieked, his body gradually shriveling.

A sinister, mocking laugh echoed. Amid the thick black mist, Hollowbelly saw someone—Miss Wen May, her body glowing with green light, laughing ceaselessly at his side. Her laughter was tinged with madness, as if she drew pleasure from his suffering.

"How does it feel? The taste of resentment is something, isn't it? This resentment will tear you apart, and you'll become one of them—forever trapped in hatred, knowing nothing but resentment, no other feelings at all."

Hollowbelly stared wide-eyed at Miss Wen May. The black mist didn't harm her; instead, it kept flowing into her body. She looked utterly intoxicated, as if relishing it.

"I'm only here because of you, you wretched woman."

It felt as if Hollowbelly's head was melting. His consciousness grew fuzzy, his heart completely consumed by resentment. The black mist gradually calmed. Hollowbelly laughed hollowly, knowing he was close to the end. Though he struggled, soon he'd be torn apart and become part of the mist.

In the distance, Miss Wen May's face changed, a trace of sadness appearing. She laughed hollowly.

"Miss Wen May, your whole life has been about love, but you've never received a man's affection. Me? My life is about money. I ended up like this all because of you. Heh."

Hollowbelly's body began to slowly dissolve, sinking into the ground. He suffered for money, laughed for money, raged for money, went mad for money, and finally, died for money.

Let go of everything. Hollowbelly recalled the words of Abbot Fortune, telling him to let go. Now, perhaps it was finally time—he was truly dying, and it was time to let go, even of his very root: money.

A crisp, ringing sound echoed. In a daze, Hollowbelly saw a flash of golden light, the rustling sound of countless white banknotes swirling in the air, and gems covering the ground. His consciousness gradually returned.

"All of this is mine. With money, anything is possible. With money, I can survive. This is my money—no one can take it away."

Hollowbelly shouted, reaching out. Miss Wen May, who had looked a bit sad, immediately returned to her cold, mocking demeanor and laughed with disdain.

"Still thinking about money even at death's door."

"No one can take it. This money is mine—mine!"

Hollowbelly kept rambling, reaching for mountains of gold and silver and dazzling treasures. Suddenly, a wave of hunger restored some of his senses. He slowly raised his hand, clutching a handful of Spirit Notes.

Miss Wen May watched in surprise as Hollowbelly opened his mouth and stuffed the Spirit Notes inside, chewing noisily. As he kept eating, his fading body began to recover, and the resentment inside him was expelled.

"It's good to have money."

Hollowbelly laughed hollowly as a flash of golden light appeared. He slowly floated upward, a layer of golden dust seeming to surround him, completely blocking out the resentful energy.

At that moment, Hollowbelly's eyes changed—cold and filled with greed.

"What's so bad about this? Wen May, you keep searching for love in the world, and I want my money. We're still the same as always, we can keep going together. Isn't that great? Isn't it wonderful?"

Slowly, Hollowbelly floated to Wen May, grinning wickedly and reaching out to caress her chin.

With a sharp slap, Wen May brushed Hollowbelly's hand away and smirked.

"I became obsessed with money because of you. You severed your ties to love because of me. Maybe we're a match made in hell."

A shrill laugh echoed as the black mist gradually sank into the ground. With a whoosh, Wen May and Hollowbelly stood on the Road to the Yellow Springs.

The two Hell's Registrars' faces suddenly changed, and they tried to flee. Instantly, a shower of golden dust flew out. One Hell's Registrar was hit and his body froze, turning into gold. Meanwhile, a wave of resentment from the Forest of Wailing grabbed the other, devouring him until he turned into a stream of black water.

"Fine. I'll trust you this once. I'll search for my love, and you for your money. We'll stay out of each other's way."

The once-peaceful Necropolis suddenly erupted into chaos. Two Blue Wraiths emerged from the Ghost Gate, leaving countless Hellwardens and Yin Soldiers dead. They quickly escaped Necropolis, catching the Underworld Court completely off guard.

After decades of silence, two powerful Blue Wraiths appeared on the Ghost Path in the human world: King Hollowbelly and Lady Bone Wraith—a man and a woman, always together, no matter where they went or what they did.

Some said they were husband and wife, but no ghost who'd seen them ever heard them call each other that. Others claimed they were close friends, but many had witnessed them fighting fiercely.

Their overwhelming power soon drew the attention of the Underworld Court. In the living world, King Hollowbelly and Lady Bone Wraith stood at the very top. Although seven newly emerged evil ghosts existed, none could compare to those two, and the Underworld Court paid them little mind.

Hollowbelly threw a massive sack to the ground. With a crash, gold, silver, and jewels scattered everywhere. Their actions were always extravagant; they never mingled with other ghosts.

On a small island surrounded by dead water, Hollowbelly and Wen May lived here, occasionally venturing out.

"Hmph, what's the point of fiddling with those bones all day? Do you actually like bones? Haven't you found a single man among all those I've brought back for you that suits your taste?"

Wen May giggled.

"They all say they'll love me forever, but deep down they're afraid of me. Not one is sincere, so I just eat their flesh and blood to see what they taste like."

Hollowbelly burst out laughing, grabbing handfuls of jewels and crunching them down.

"Your belly keeps getting bigger. If you keep eating, it might just burst."

The two chatted like old friends, lightheartedly discussing the Underworld Court's latest moves. Hollowbelly laughed.

"They want us to go to the outskirts of the ghost realm to help manage things. I heard a Blue Wraith called Lord Wraith and another called Lord Castleton have appeared there—both very powerful, and neither willing to accept anything from the Underworld Court. Heh."

"Not interested."

Wen May picked up a nearby skeleton and idly played with it in her hands.

"But lately, what unsettles me are those seven evil ghosts. You’ve heard about them, right?"

"There’s one I’m quite interested in—Lord Shenyan, I think. He’s a pretty impressive man."

Hollowbelly's expression vanished.

"I heard they all died before us, but they were always obscure nobodies. No idea why they've suddenly appeared now."

"The ghost realm is about to change. Things are going to get ugly from here on out."

Wen May spoke, and Hollowbelly looked at her in confusion.

"Looks like you know something, don't you?"

"Come on, I'll take you to meet someone—even stronger than both of us."

For a moment, Hollowbelly shook his head.

"I'm not interested in that. Some masked people came to ask us to cooperate before, remember? Those were humans."

"The Underworld Court is bound to make a move. If we keep this up, there'll be no way out. We have to do something—maybe trade information about those seven evil ghosts for our peace. What do you think?"

Hollowbelly pondered for a moment, then nodded.

"Let's trade information about those seven evil ghosts for our peace. Heh, especially that arrogant bastard John Chou—I'm looking forward to him!"
