Pleading for Mercy

"Call the police and arrest you! You little punk, after all these years, you still have delusions about my Chloe? Have you ever thought about what kind of person you are!" Lisa Liu, standing next to Kevin Cheng, shrieked, her voice sharp and her eyes blazing as she glared at Evan Lin.

In Lisa Liu and Kevin Cheng's eyes, the only reason Evan Lin showed up here was to beg them to accept him, just so he could get close to Chloe Cheng again.

Otherwise, how could a broke kid with no background ever set foot in the sales office of somewhere like Mooncrest Manor?

"Can't you tell? That kid isn't really here to look at houses, he's here to find himself a mother-in-law." Han Yan, sitting off to the side, watched the scene with amusement.

I told you, what business does a kid like that have looking at houses here? You think he could afford anything in this place? Obviously he's up to something, but it sounds like those two aren't happy with him. One of the salesgirls watched Kevin Cheng and Lisa Liu argue, her eyes full of anticipation for the drama.

How could they be happy with him? That kid's obviously from a poor family, while those two look like they have money and status. Probably just another phoenix man trying to climb up, but the girl's parents are blocking him, so he's here to plead. Another salesgirl, seeing the scene, imagined a bunch of tacky drama and looked at Evan Lin with a mix of malice and disdain.

These days, when a woman sees a phoenix man, it's mostly disgust and contempt. Besides, watching drama is just human nature.

Evan Lin glanced at Kevin Cheng and Lisa Liu standing in front of him, raising an eyebrow. "Are you done yet?"

Seeing Evan Lin's calm and plain expression, Kevin Cheng and Lisa Liu froze for a moment, then immediately exploded like powder kegs, getting even angrier.

"I'm telling you, get lost—get far away from here! Otherwise, do you want me to go find your teacher again?" Lisa Liu shouted at Evan Lin.

May Wang's face was full of anxiety. "Auntie, Uncle, you've misunderstood!"

May Wang wanted to speak up for Evan Lin, but as soon as she opened her mouth, the woman pitching houses to Kevin Cheng and Lisa Liu immediately became displeased.

She'd finally found two people who might actually buy a house, and after all her hard work and persuasion, the deal was almost closed—until a random teenager barged in and ruined everything.

Because of this teenager's appearance, the two buyers' moods soured. If the deal fell through, all her effort would be wasted and she'd lose her commission. Thinking of this, she glared coldly at May Wang. "May Wang, you have no right to speak here! You've been here three months and haven't closed a single deal. Go mind your own business!"

Then she turned to Evan Lin, sizing him up and immediately frowning. "If you're not here to buy a house, please leave. Don't disturb our clients while they're viewing properties."

If you refuse to cooperate, don't blame me for calling security to have you thrown out.

At that moment, everyone was staring coldly at Evan Lin, while a few people nearby looked on with faces eager for drama.

May Wang was very anxious and wanted to argue, but when the saleswoman glanced at her, she shrank back in fear. Then she turned and tugged Evan Lin's arm, looking troubled. "Evan, maybe we should go look over there instead."

She was referring to the model of the housing development in the corner.

As soon as May Wang spoke, before Evan Lin could reply, the saleswoman snapped coldly again: "May Wang! I didn't tell you to take him to look at the model somewhere else. I told him to leave, to get out of sight of our distinguished clients!"

Distinguished clients.

That phrase made Kevin Cheng and Lisa Liu feel very pleased; they straightened their backs and puffed out their chests.

May Wang, having been scolded repeatedly, blinked back tears, her already plain face now looking even more pitiful. "Evan, maybe I should go out with you for a walk?"

"So, are you done talking, or are you all just idiots?" Evan Lin listened to their words, his expression perfectly calm.

"Typical phoenix man—his skin is thick as ever." Helen Han sneered.

On the other side, Evan Lin gently pulled May Wang behind him, then stepped forward.

"What do you think you're doing? Are you planning to kneel and beg me? I'm telling you, it won't work!" Kevin Cheng sneered as Evan Lin approached, looking smug and arrogant.

"You make a good point, but the one who should be kneeling isn't me." Evan Lin smirked, his eyes narrowing.

As soon as he finished speaking—

In everyone's eyes, Kevin Cheng, who had just been standing angrily in front of Evan Lin, suddenly buckled at the knees and, with a thud, dropped to the ground.

Everyone was stunned by the scene.

Lisa Liu's face changed instantly. She rushed to help Kevin Cheng up from the ground. "Old Cheng, what are you doing? Get up!"

Lisa Liu called out anxiously and grabbed Kevin Cheng's shoulders, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get him off the ground.

May Wang stared blankly, full of shock. "What happened?"

A nearby saleswoman quickly walked over, trying to help pull Kevin Cheng up.

Kevin Cheng's face flushed red, and he desperately tried to stand, but couldn't muster any strength at all.

"I... I can't get up, help me!"

Kevin Cheng was sweating profusely and had no idea what was happening—he just felt as if a huge force was pressing down on his legs.

Seeing this weird situation, the saleswomen who'd been watching the drama all rushed over to help, trying to pull him up.

But no matter how many people tried, Kevin Cheng stayed kneeling on the ground, rock solid.

Lisa Liu's whole face twisted with embarrassment.

May Wang, standing behind Evan Lin, asked nervously, "What's wrong with him?"

"Some people act superior for so long, they really start thinking they're something. But without substance, they get what they deserve." Evan Lin explained to May Wang.

After speaking, Evan Lin stood in front of Kevin Cheng, lowered his head, and lifted his foot, placing it on Kevin's head—though not really stepping down, just playing around. "Sorry, my shoe's a little dirty, but your hair looks just like a brush. Mind if I borrow it for a second? You don't mind, right?"

"You keep kneeling like that and won't get up, so I'll take it as your consent."
