Too Naive

12/19/2025

Looking at Quentin Yuan and the others preparing to enter the Providence Gate, Raina Wen calmly said, "I advise Fifth Step Paragons at the early and middle stages not to go and throw away your lives. Let me put it this way: if Third Step cultivators are safe within the Providence Gate, then for early and middle Fifth Step Paragons, entering the Providence Gate is certain death. Even late Fifth Step Paragons have only the slimmest chance of survival."

Upon hearing Raina Wen's words, both Quentin Yuan and the Fifth Step Paragons from the Divine Clan and Redlin Clan instinctively stopped in their tracks.

"Daoist Yuan, I feel the same way. Daoist Wen wouldn't deceive you." Joe Di looked at Quentin Yuan and said, also advising against Quentin Yuan entering.

Quentin Yuan hesitated, sighed, and transmitted to Joe Di, "Inside, there's a Life-and-Death Gate. It should be the key to stepping into the Sixth Step. Brother Di, beware of others' schemes."

After saying this, Quentin Yuan turned and left, clearly having decided not to go this time. With his strength, going would truly be courting death.

Seeing Quentin Yuan turn away, the other three Fifth Step Paragons who had planned to enter together also stopped in their tracks.

......

As Joe Di crossed the tree-shaped Providence Gate, he clearly felt his Dao Tree tremble slightly, as if resonating with something within.

"Such dense world energy!" As soon as Yu Zhai stepped into the Providence Gate, he excitedly sensed the surroundings.

"Rumor has it that one can stay in the Providence Gate for at most one hundred and eight days. After that, you must leave, or your physical body will collapse and you'll die." Jing Wanying glanced at Bai Junxiao of the Coldmoon Clan and cautiously spoke.

Here, he and the Redlin Patriarch were actually the weakest, and the only one they could align with was Jasper Bai, who was at odds with Joe Di.

Raina Wen let out a cold chuckle but said nothing.

Owen Sander said blandly, "Before we arrived, were you planning to stay here for one hundred and eight days searching for rare treasures?"

Jing Wanying quickly replied, "Both Eugene Nightgold and I have heard that if you want to step into the Sixth Step or even higher realms, you must search within the Providence Gate. So our coming here isn't just about seeking rare treasures—we also wanted to try our luck..."

"Isn't it just about bringing Daoist Di to the Life-and-Death Gate, then using his Human Clan blood and soul to open the gate and break the one hundred and eight day limit of the Providence Gate?" Owen Sander snorted disdainfully.

Jing Wanying's expression remained calm and he said nothing more. In fact, he and the Redlin Patriarch did have this plan, but now, even if these Sixth Step powerhouses hadn't come, they probably couldn't force Joe Di to bleed and suppress the Life-and-Death Gate.

"After those two old fellows from the Divine Clan, there really isn't anyone left who's a serious threat." Owen Sander chuckled but didn't continue.

After Jasper Bai entered, he simply rushed ahead in silence. With Owen Sander not interrogating them, Jing Wanying and the Redlin Patriarch finally breathed a sigh of relief. Not daring to say another word, they followed behind with heads bowed.

If they didn't know this might be their only chance, they truly wouldn't have come here this time.

As they walked deeper inside, the rules of heaven and earth grew increasingly blurred, and top-tier treasures appeared more frequently in their spiritual sense. Joe Di had originally planned to collect some, but seeing everyone else speeding up, he could only keep pace. If he had to go to the Life-and-Death Gate alone, he wouldn't even know the way.

Along the way, Joe Di even saw two Dao Veins. He was fine—he already had plenty of Dao Veins, including a Supreme Dao Vein. But for Yu Zhai and the others, seeing Dao Veins made their hearts itch with longing. Still, like Joe Di, none of them stopped; they all rushed forward.

Although Joe Di's cultivation was the lowest, his escape technique was the fastest. Unfortunately, he was probably the only one who didn't know the way, so he could only follow the others.

In just over a hundred days, time was quickly consumed as everyone rushed forward.

"Speed up! Only one day left. If we can't cross the Life-and-Death Gate, we might be sent out of the Providence Gate..." Owen Sander shouted as he rushed ahead.

Only now did Joe Di understand why, despite encountering so many treasures along the way, no one stopped. Clearly, everyone knew that even a moment's delay could mean running out of time at the end.

This meant that, once inside the Providence Gate, only one hundred and eight days remained. To exceed this limit, you had to reach the Life-and-Death Gate within that time.

As the final day was about to arrive, Jasper Bai, who was leading, stopped; the others also halted.

Before them lay a line of yellow sand, beyond which neither spiritual sense nor sight could penetrate. There were too many people here, so Joe Di didn't use his Eye of the Way.

Jasper Bai said nothing, simply stepping forward. As his foot landed on the yellow sand, a black-and-white rippling array gate appeared ahead. Within the gate, there seemed to be a hint of vitality, yet also a lingering aura of death.

Joe Di guessed this must be the Life-and-Death Gate, but he had no idea how to enter it.

"Everyone, put one foot on the Severance Sand first, then we'll discuss." Owen Sander followed Jasper Bai's example, placing one foot on the yellow sand and one foot outside.

Joe Di imitated the others, putting one foot on the yellow sand. As soon as his foot touched the Severance Sand, he immediately felt an indescribable Dao resonance enveloping him. Within this resonance was a top-tier Dao aura nearly equal to his Path of Rules. Joe Di was moved—his Dao Tree held three such supreme Dao auras.

Besides his Path of Rules, there was Ye Mo's Way of All Things and Ning Cheng's Way of Unity. Now, there was a new Dao aura here—if he could comprehend it, his Dao Tree would reach another level.

Jasper Bai's voice was chilling. "Everyone, there should be less than one incense stick's time left before the one hundred and eight day limit. If we can't enter the Life-and-Death Gate within this time, all our efforts here will be wasted."

Though Jasper Bai was speaking, his deathly gaze was fixed on Joe Di.

"Daoist Di, you've heard of the Life-and-Death Gate, haven't you?" Owen Sander said with a sly smile. "The Life-and-Death Gate is actually related to a Human Clan powerhouse. To open it, you need the blood of a Human Clan expert. Otherwise, you enter life and emerge as death."

Joe Di's face darkened as he replied coldly, "So what you're saying is, I have to use my blood to sacrifice to the Life-and-Death Gate, and then graciously let you all enter?"

At this moment, Joe Di understood that Quentin Yuan's message to him had been overheard. He had been too kind and naive, always thinking Owen Sander wasn't so bad. He never expected they'd be waiting for him here. He'd even given two entry spots to Owen Sander and Raina Wen, but these people probably no longer cared about human warmth—only their pursuit of the Dao.

This Owen Sander really knows how to put on an act. Earlier, he rebuked Jing Wanying and the Redlin Patriarch for wanting his soul and blood to sacrifice to the Life-and-Death Gate, but now he's doing it himself.

Jing Wanying and the Redlin Patriarch understood now—Owen Sander, though outwardly supporting Joe Di, had also come here to use Joe Di's blood to open the Life-and-Death Gate.

Only Jasper Bai remained outwardly calm; clearly, he'd expected this all along.

Owen Sander smiled, "Daoist Di, you've misunderstood. How could I ask you to sacrifice yourself for the Life-and-Death Gate? I'm not like those two useless fellows from the Divine Clan—they want your blood and soul to open the gate. I promise, just a little of your blood will be enough, and you won't be affected at all.

Now that we've all entered the Providence Gate together, naturally we'll advance and retreat as one. Besides, Daoist Di, you should be at the peak of the Fifth Step, maybe even with one foot in the Sixth Step. I guarantee you'll be safe and may even easily break through to the Sixth Step—it's not impossible to reach the level of the rest of us in the future."

Jasper Bai sneered inwardly; only he knew Joe Di's true strength. He wasn't sure of the specifics, but Joe Di was almost certainly at the peak of the Fifth Step, with no aura of the Sixth Step. Joe Di at this level wouldn't be much weaker than him. Owen Sander probably thought Joe Di was far weaker, and his earlier support was just talk—he wouldn't warn Owen Sander about it.

Joe Di's gaze landed on Raina Wen. He said coolly, "Daoist Wen, do you mean the same? Do you also want to use my blood to sacrifice to the Life-and-Death Gate?"
