Chapter 168: A Few Tables of Mahjong

Just then, three carriages pulled up in front of the Gilded Rose...

Three people stepped out of the carriages: Kadgar from the Blackhorn Auction House, Soth from the Viper's Nest, and the last was someone Leon hadn't expected at all—Monty from the Monty Family.

Of the three, Kadgar had the closest relationship with Leon. The Gilded Rose and Blackhorn Auction House already had a solid partnership, so when Kadgar got off the carriage, he didn't stand on ceremony with Leon—he greeted him casually and walked straight into the Gilded Rose's main hall.

And then there was Soth...

At first, the head of Seaview City's biggest underground syndicate didn't get along with Leon at all. But after Leon made two trips into Venomfog Gorge—one to blast two watchtowers to bits, the other to take out a Grand Mage—Soth quickly straightened up. And once he did, he was surprised to find that life in the Viper's Nest suddenly got a whole lot easier.

The most obvious change was that the high-quality alchemical goods supplied by the Gilded Rose instantly boosted the Viper's Nest's fighting power. It was a godsend for their expansion deeper into Venomfog Gorge. With new collaborations and a bright future ahead, Soth didn't hesitate—he cut ties with the Monty Family and threw his lot in with the Gilded Rose without a second thought.

So when Monty stepped off the carriage, his face was truly unpleasant to behold.

Not that it mattered. Years ago, Soth had been Monty's protégé, but lately, Soth had completely shaken off Monty's influence. The Viper's Nest now ran Venomfog Gorge like a fortress, almost a kingdom of its own. Whatever dissatisfaction Monty felt, he had to keep it bottled up—he only ever cursed Soth as a 'treacherous wolf' in front of his two sons.

Lately, Monty had been doing his best to avoid showing up with Soth. Otherwise, it was just more fuel for gossip behind his back.
