Unexpectedly, at that moment, Cecilia Chen's hand was suddenly grabbed by someone!
Grace turned her head in surprise, only to see that it was Justin Guo, the chief guard.
"Hmm? Justin Guo? What are you doing?" Cecilia Chen glared at him angrily.
"Miss Cecilia, that's a question I should be asking you." Justin Guo replied calmly.
"As I recall, Chief Guard Guo is only responsible for the security of the General's Manor. So? You dare to meddle in my affairs now?"
"You're right! I am the chief guard here, and my job is to protect the safety of everyone in the manor," Justin Guo replied. "That slap just now could have killed her, so forgive me for not just standing by and watching. If General Evan Xiao holds me accountable, I wouldn't be able to bear that responsibility!"
Cecilia Chen sneered, "So, you've decided to go against me?"
"I wouldn't dare. I'm just doing my duty."
"Hmph! Fine, I'll remember you!" Cecilia Chen shot him a fierce glare and turned to leave.
She was a Third-rank Spirit Practitioner, but Justin Guo was Fourth-rank—she couldn't win against him.
Besides, she suddenly felt that, with so many people watching, it really wasn’t the right time to kill Lily Bai in public.
After she left, Grace gratefully bowed to Justin Guo. "Thank you, Chief Guard Guo, for helping me out."
"You're welcome," Justin Guo replied. "Miss Lily, where are you heading with that bundle?"
"To the stables," Grace said with a slightly forlorn smile. "General Evan Xiao kicked me out of the Frostmoon Quarters today, so I'll be working at the stables from now on."
"Really?" Justin Guo's eyes lit up.
Grace nodded.
"Well, I'm quite familiar with the stables. Let me take you there!" Justin Guo said.
"Thank you, Chief Guard Guo." Grace thought he really was a kind-hearted person.
The guards often needed horses, so they were also familiar with the stable staff.
After taking her there, Justin Guo greeted the stable manager.
The stable manager gave her a relatively easy job: feeding the horses.
He even let her stay in a fairly clean room.
Grace was very grateful to Justin Guo and thanked him again and again.
If it weren't for him, Grace would've been in trouble today—and who knows, maybe the stable manager would've made her shovel horse manure too...
That night, Grace lay on her bed, gazing at the moonlight outside her window, feeling a little sad.
She had almost succeeded today.
If Cecilia Chen hadn't barged in, she'd be lying in her own room at the Prime Minister's Residence right now, living as the Zhu Family's young lady, surrounded by servants.
And in a few days, her Spirit Root would have grown...
But alas... all her efforts were wasted!
The little bit of hope she finally found at Moonwater Abbey was snuffed out just like that.
She found herself wanting to curse Cecilia Chen's ancestors again. What was she supposed to do?
Well, maybe Cecilia Chen didn’t have any ancestors worth cursing. So what now?
Maybe... maybe she really should leave the General's Manor?
Then she could go back and figure out what kind of incense made Evan Xiao lose control, and come up with a new plan.
But if she left, getting close to Evan Xiao again would be next to impossible.
By then, even if she figured out what was in that incense, it wouldn’t matter...
Grace tossed and turned, but eventually, exhaustion took over and she drifted off to sleep.
In her dreams, she saw Grace Wan’s vicious, arrogant smile again.
She laughed wildly, saying she’d dug out her Spirit Root and given it to Wendy Zhu.
And then dug out her son’s Spirit Root, giving it to Wendy Zhu’s son.
She even killed her parents and ruined the Zhu Family!
Meanwhile, Grace Wan and Wendy Zhu had become the most honored women in Blue Moon Kingdom...
