Father Finally Found You

Demanding so much silver—clearly extortion.

But Maya Summers didn’t even hesitate—she pulled out three hundred taels of silver and tossed it at them.

They spat at the old man on the ground and sneered, "Lucky you! Get lost, and if you dare come back, we'll chop off your hands and feet!"

The old man trembled as he sat up, lifting his head to look at Maya Summers.

"Sir, are you alright?" Maya Summers asked.

"Maya..." To her surprise, the old man actually called out Maya Summers' name.

"Huh? Maya, he knows you?" Samuel Summers exclaimed in surprise.

Maya studied the old man's face, shook her head, and said, "I've never seen him before. Sir, do you know me?"

The old man smiled at her, "Maya, my daughter, your father has finally found you."

Maya was speechless.

It was obvious that the old man’s mental state wasn’t quite right.

As for him calling her by name... Maybe his own daughter just happened to be named Mingyue too?

"Let's go," Grace said.

"Wait!" Maya grabbed Grace’s arm. "Check him over, just in case he’s actually hurt."

Grace gave her aunt a helpless look. This old habit of hers was acting up again.

She’d always been like this—couldn’t stand injustice, especially against the old, weak, sick, and disabled.

She crouched down, took the beggar’s wrist, and checked his pulse.

"How is he?" Maya asked.

"Just some superficial wounds. Nothing serious," Grace replied.

Only then did Maya feel relieved. She handed the old man another ten taels of silver, warned him not to steal food from this restaurant again, and left with the others.

Unexpectedly, after just a few steps, the old man chased after them, calling out, "Mingyue!"

Maya turned back and said to him, "Yes, my name is Mingyue, but I’m not your daughter! You’ve got the wrong person!"

With that, the three of them ignored him and walked away.

...

Rina Chu’s rental apartment.

Evan Xiao read Grace’s farewell letter, his face so dark it looked like he could summon a thunderstorm.

And his Heartscale... She’d even returned that to him!

"Grace left completely heartbroken," Rina Chu said worriedly. "I’m really afraid she’ll do something rash!"

"You don’t know where she went, either?"

Rina Chu shook her head.

"Thank you." Evan Xiao took the letter and the Heartscale, and left.

Boom! A muffled thunder rolled across the sky, the dark clouds blending with Evan Xiao’s silhouette as if he were the embodiment of a god’s wrath.

"He’s really mad!" Rina Chu said, stroking her chin.

General’s Manor.

"Tell me what you did." Evan Xiao’s voice was cold as ice.

"Brother... I came all this way to see you, and you treat me like this?" The woman in pink, Vivian Xiao, who once claimed to be Evan Xiao’s wife, clung to his arm and acted coy.

"Vivian, you know my temper," Evan Xiao said, looking at her.

Vivian Xiao bit her lip and finally said, "I was just joking with Miss Zhuo... I said I was your wife and she could only be your consort."

"Joking? Why joke about something like that?"

Vivian Xiao said, "At best, she could only be your secondary wife. Isn’t a secondary wife basically a consort? I was just giving her a heads-up, that’s all."

Evan Xiao didn’t want to talk about that anymore. Instead, he asked, "Who attacked Marquis Lawrence?"

"Huh?" Vivian Xiao glanced at Sophie Shang. "I... I really don’t know."

Evan Xiao looked at Sophie Shang. "What about you? Do you know anything?"

Sophie Shang shook her head. "No idea."

"You really don’t know?" Evan Xiao pressed.

Sophie Shang felt something was off, but she still said, "I don’t know."
