You Must Save Me
In the neighboring room, Jasper Cheng and Lana Evans had just tasted some sweetness, but how could they be content when their silver was gone?
The two planned to report the incident to the Six Doors, but they both knew that once silver was stolen, it was nearly impossible to recover. Even if they found those vagrants, the money was probably long gone.
Lana Evans was simply unwilling to accept this outcome.
"No way, we lost our silver, we have to get more, or when will our good days ever come?" Lana Evans slapped her thigh and stood up. "I'm going to find my father and get some more silver out of him."
Jasper Cheng couldn't wait for Lana Evans to bring back more silver.
"Alright, darling, hurry and talk to Father. Ask him to lend us a bit more silver."
Lana Evans pondered for a moment and decided to play the victim.
She first made sure Jasper Cheng and Madam Sun were in on the story, then deliberately messed up her hair, rubbed her eyes until they were red and swollen, and went crying to knock on Sam Evans's door.
"Dad, open the door! Something terrible has happened, I can't go on!" Lana Evans wailed pitifully outside the door.
Sam Evans lay on his bed, his fists clenched tightly. At last, he let out a long sigh, got up, and opened the door.
"Dad, please save me!" Lana Evans burst into Sam Evans's arms as soon as she entered, crying her heart out.
"Dad, can you believe my bad luck? I just paid off our debts with my husband, and on the way home, we were robbed and beaten. We went to the clinic for our injuries, but the doctor took my pulse and said I had a terminal illness and didn't have long to live." Lana Evans cried, looking utterly miserable.
If this had happened before today, Sam Evans would have been so worried his face would turn pale. But now, after learning the truth, he was already prepared.
He knew Lana Evans would use the excuse of a terminal illness to get money out of him. He just didn't expect her to act so quickly.
"Dad, your daughter is dying. I won't be able to take care of you anymore. Please, take care of yourself." Lana Evans clung to Sam Evans's arm, sobbing hard.
Sam Evans looked at his daughter pretending to cry and just felt a tightness in his chest. After a long pause, he finally said, "Lana, what do you want Dad to do this time?"
Sam Evans lowered his head, praying in his heart that Lana Evans would turn back before it was too late. If she could truly repent now, he was ready to give her another chance and let go of her past deceptions.
But in the end, Lana Evans let Sam Evans down.
Lana Evans cried that she needed a huge sum for treatment, but all the family money had gone to pay debts. There wasn't a penny left for her medicine, so she could only wait to die.
And the doctor said her illness required many rare medicinal herbs that couldn't be found anywhere except at the Lin Family's estate. But the Lin Family was Lily Evans's father's family, and Lily Evans didn't like Lana Evans, so she certainly wouldn't give up the herbs. That meant Lana Evans could only wait to die.
Listening to his daughter's words, Sam Evans heard only one thing: if Sam Evans didn't give her money, and Lily Evans didn't give her medicine, then Lana Evans would die. If Lana Evans died, it would all be because Sam Evans couldn't provide money or medicine, and it would be his fault.
"Dad, you won't just stand by and let your daughter die, right? Dad, you have to save me!" Lana Evans cried, clinging to her father's waist.
