Selecting the Chief Assistant for the Yin Heir
Ethan Yin thought it over and realized he was no match for Charles Yin.
Not now, and not even twenty years from now—he would still be no match!!
At first, Ethan Yin thought Yin Enterprises was just a multinational corporation, but the deeper he learned about the Yin Family, the more terrified he became of Charles Yin!
Turns out, his high-and-mighty older brother was never just a dragon trapped by Yin Enterprises. He was more like a mythic dragon soaring across Africa, the Middle East, and Europe!
Just thinking about how he once fantasized about defeating Charles Yin made him realize how utterly foolish that idea was!
Charles Yin—already beyond anyone’s reach.
A man who could control such vast power—how could he possibly be ordinary?
More than once, Ethan Yin was grateful he never had to face Charles Yin head-on. Otherwise, he’d probably be chopped up and thrown into the deep sea to feed the fish, and no one in the world would even know he was gone…
For May Yan, for Angela Ma, and for himself, he instantly decided to surrender to his big brother.
That’s why he finally gathered the courage to message Cecilia Gu, hoping to invite them out for a meal.
He didn’t even dare message Charles Yin—only Cecilia Gu!
Deep down, Charles Yin’s unpredictability terrified Ethan Yin too much; he simply didn’t have the guts to contact him!
Cecilia Gu thought for a moment and seemed to understand.
Charles Yin said softly, “Alright, get up. It’s almost New Year, but it’s not the holiday yet—no need for formal greetings. Cici’s hungry, so let’s serve the food.”
Alex immediately took the order and called the kitchen to send the dishes.
Only then did Ethan Yin nervously get up from the floor, sitting off to the side and carefully wiping the sweat from his forehead.
But Charles Yin had already turned to Cecilia Gu, saying, “Cici, have you thought about what kind of Chief Assistant you want for the baby?”
“Chief Assistant?” Cecilia Gu was stunned. “Like Henry Shaw?”
Charles Yin nodded with a smile. “Exactly. Every generation’s heir has their Chief Assistant chosen before birth, someone who’ll grow up alongside them. Yes, just like Henry Shaw. Only those raised from childhood are absolutely loyal.”
Cecilia Gu gently stroked her belly and said, “You decide. I don’t really understand this stuff.”
“Usually, the Chief Assistant is picked from our own people. If the heir is a girl, she gets a female assistant; if it’s a boy, he gets a male assistant. Since our baby’s a boy, he’ll need a boy as his companion. As his mother, you have the right to decide.” Charles Yin gently stroked Cecilia’s belly, feeling the little guy’s strong kicks. His warm smile was so different from the imposing, domineering man he’d been moments before.
“What do Mom and Grandma think?” Cecilia Gu asked.
“Mom’s found a few candidates, but you have the final say. We’ll be back at the main house for New Year’s Eve, and Mom will let you choose then.” Charles Yin took Cecilia’s hand, not caring about the audience, and kissed her fingertips gently. “Cici, thank you for giving Mom the Lady Portrait, and thank you for helping me fulfill my duty.”
Cecilia Gu smiled softly, giving him a playful look. “So, can you let the Yun Family off the hook for my sake?”
Charles Yin touched his nose, clearly reluctant, but said, “Alright, for you, I’ll allow the Yun Family to rise again.”
Only then did Cecilia Gu truly smile.
Ethan Yin ate his meal in utter fear.
Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin ate as if no one else was there.
No helping it—Ethan Yin’s presence was just too weak.
Cecilia Gu wanted to speak to Ethan Yin, but before she could finish, Charles Yin’s sharp gaze stopped her—and Ethan didn’t even dare to answer, even if he wanted to.
So everyone ate this meal very quickly.
Time passed in a flash.
Cecilia Gu picked out gifts herself and had someone deliver them to the Mo Family, asking Max Mo to pass them on to the Yun Family parents and her adoptive mother, Jane Gu.
Since she was asking a favor, the gifts for the Mo Family had to be chosen with care.
Cecilia Gu made sure to cover all the bases—even though Max Mo’s parents weren’t in Y Province and the Mo Family patriarch didn’t live at home, she still carefully picked out gifts.
So, of course, that goes double for Sophie Mo and Max Mo.
Ah, Max Mo just got his gift because he happened to be there.
Cecilia Gu put real thought into Sophie Mo’s gift—Max Mo just benefited from being her brother.
Even so, the whole Mo Family was very pleased.
After all, they’d already accepted her as their daughter-in-law.
Even if, for now, she’s the Yin Family’s daughter-in-law…
Still, that didn’t change how much the Mo Family adored Cecilia Gu.
Even royalty marries divorced women with kids, so why not the Mo Family?
Once you reach a certain level, first marriage or second marriage—it just doesn’t matter.
Cecilia Gu made sure to take care of the people in Y Province, and of course she didn’t forget her friends and family in N City.
During the New Year season, almost everyone received a carefully chosen gift from Cecilia Gu.
Even Helen Jiang, who never really got along with Cecilia, received a gift—just not an expensive one.
Cecilia Gu handled all the social niceties perfectly.
So, in the Yin Family, there wasn’t a single person who didn’t praise Cecilia Gu.
And the return gifts Cecilia Gu received nearly flooded her villa.
So even if Cecilia Gu was completely disheveled right now, Xiao Heng had to pretend not to notice!
Alex spotted Cecilia and immediately smiled, greeting her, "Young Madam, today’s a special day—sorry to make you get up so early! The President instructed that you can nap in the car if you’d like, and only wake up once we arrive at the Yin Manor."
Cecilia waved him off. "Forget it. Wendy spent ages picking out this outfit and doing my makeup. If I sleep, I’ll have to redo everything. Is everything packed? We should get going. When is Charles heading over?"
"Young Madam, the President said he’ll come around noon. He wants you to go ahead and pick out the Chief Assistant for the little master." Alex explained.
Cecilia nodded, then suddenly turned to Xiao Heng. "You’re a Chief Assistant yourself. Come with me—I have no experience with this, so help me choose."
Xiao Heng raised his thick eyebrows and, after a few seconds, answered, "Yes, Young Madam."
Cecilia asked Alex, "So what exactly does the Chief Assistant do? Charles has so many assistants—why does he need a Chief Assistant?"
Alex glanced nervously at Xiao Heng, making sure he wasn’t upset, before answering, "The Chief Assistant is different from us. We help the President with work and life, and our jobs can be swapped at any time. But the Chief Assistant… that’s a lifelong commitment. You only ever do this one job."
Cecilia’s sleepiness vanished, her curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"
"The Chief Assistant is with their master for life—like Mrs. Yin and the old Mrs. Yin’s assistants. They’re chosen young and stay forever, unless health prevents them from working. Otherwise, it’s a lifelong post."
That’s when Cecilia remembered—it was true.
Neither Mrs. Yin nor the old Mrs. Yin had ever changed assistants, and their status was extraordinary.
So that’s how it works…
Alex grinned, "That’s why the Chief Assistant’s loyalty is unmatched. Anyone else might betray you, but never the Chief Assistant. That’s why they handle so many important things for their master."
Suddenly, Xiao Heng interrupted Alex, "You’re talking too much."
Alex immediately put on a face that accepted the criticism and shut his mouth.
But instead, Cecilia found herself even more fascinated by the idea of a Chief Assistant.
After urging everyone to finish packing, Cecilia soon arrived at the Yin Manor.
Sure enough, the entrance was bustling—branches of the Yin Family had come to pay their respects, bringing all kinds of gifts.
Cecilia’s convoy drove straight to the main courtyard. With Wendy’s help, she got out of the car slowly.
As soon as Cecilia appeared, Mrs. Yin’s assistant came over to greet her.
"Good morning, Young Madam," Mrs. Yin’s assistant greeted respectfully.
Cecilia nodded, took a few steps, then suddenly stopped and turned to ask, "How long have you been with Mom?"
"Young Madam, it’s been over forty years," the assistant replied, still respectful.
Cecilia was enlightened.
Just as she thought!
"Madam said you can go straight to the East Wing to choose the Chief Assistant for the little master—they’re waiting there. Do you want to start now, Young Madam?" Mrs. Yin’s assistant asked.
Cecilia thought for a moment. "Sure, I’ve got nothing else to do. I’ll go check it out."
With the assistant leading the way, Cecilia slowly made her way toward the East Wing.
Before she even reached the East Wing, Yin Siyao’s voice called out from behind, "Big sis-in-law is here!"
