Miles Gu Is in Trouble

1/4/2026

Jiro Hirayama stared blankly at Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin, then turned and walked away.

After Jiro Hirayama left, Cecilia Gu slapped her forehead. "I should go check on Ruona."

Before Cecilia Gu could step out, Charles Yin pulled her back.

"You know she needs time alone, so why are you trying to crowd her? If she needs you, she'll come find you herself." Charles Yin said softly, "I'm going to check on Shang Ke today, and I'll talk to Mrs. Shang too. You stay here and don't go anywhere. When Mu Ruona needs you, make sure she can find you. Even friends, when they're at their lowest, seek comfort and support just like lovers do."

Cecilia Gu's eyes grew moist, and she nodded.

Charles Yin is always so thoughtful and considerate!

No matter how tricky things get, to him, it's always just about whether it's good or bad for me.

With him around, I feel like I can just melt into a baby and rely on him completely.

"Be good, wait for me at home." Charles Yin bent down and gently kissed Cecilia Gu on the forehead, tidied up, and left with his assistant.

Cecilia Gu had been busy for days, so it was rare for her to get a little rest.

Cecilia shook her head. "No, it’s about Miles Gu."

Mr. Yun’s smile faded instantly. "What’s wrong with Miles Gu?"

He genuinely adored this smart, steady, studious kid.

"Dad, do you know? For over a hundred years, the Field Family has always married within the family. The genetic defects have gotten worse and worse!" Cecilia whispered. "Count Field told me that, even though Miles Gu has Asian blood, he still carries the fatal genetic flaw of the Field Family. I want to ask you, in your research, if close family marriages go on for generations, can it really lead to extinction?"

Mr. Yun’s face grew even more serious. "You’re saying the Field Family has been marrying relatives for over a century?"

Cecilia nodded.

"Theoretically, yes." Mr. Yun said gravely. "It’s a harsh law of survival—survival of the fittest. The odds of birth defects in close family marriages are very high, but sometimes you get extraordinary geniuses. History proves this. But most cases only last a few decades. If it’s been over a century, several generations, then yes, there are major risks."

Cecilia’s face fell. "Dad, then what about Miles..."

Mr. Yun waved his hand. "It’s hard to say right now. We’ll run a thorough check on Miles once we’re back. The Yun Family Research Institute should be able to find out. But don’t worry too much—it might not be as bad as you think."

"Dad, is there any way to stop this?" Cecilia pressed. "Why did Count Field say that if Miles Gu returns to England, he can resolve this crisis?"

"It’s not impossible," Mr. Yun replied after thinking. "You know about our Yun Family secret medicine—it suppresses abnormal cells. If our family can do it, maybe the Field Family can too. They’re British nobility, after all, with generations of bloodlines. At least four generations have diluted the risk. But don’t worry too much. Miles Gu might be an exception—he’s got Asian genes mixed in, he’s not a pure European."

Cecilia nodded. "I want to ask Miles Gu myself. If possible, I want to go to England in person. I won’t rest easy until I know for sure that he’s safe."

"Of course." Mr. Yun agreed readily. "If you need my help, just ask."

Cecilia finally said, "Dad, this is what I wanted to discuss. If Miles Gu really has a problem, I’d like some of the Yun Family secret medicine. Back then, when I was in danger, it saved my life. Miles is healthy now, so it should be even safer for him, right?"

Mr. Yun thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, I’ll give it to you."

Hearing Mr. Yun’s answer, Cecilia finally smiled.

Just then, Cecilia’s phone rang suddenly.

It was her emergency phone—the one that only rings in special situations.

As soon as she heard the ringtone, Cecilia’s expression changed. She answered without hesitation.

It was Aunt Zhang from home, her voice anxious and trembling: "Young Madam, please come back quickly! Master Miles has a fever, a high one that won’t go down, and he’s already passed out!"

Miles has a fever?

How is that possible?

Cecilia was stunned for a moment, then snapped out of it and shouted, "How did you take care of him? How could he suddenly get a fever out of nowhere?"

Aunt Zhang was almost crying on the phone. "We don’t know! Master Miles was fine yesterday, but this morning he said he wasn’t feeling well. The doctor checked his temperature—it was only thirty-eight degrees. But within half an hour, the fever shot up to forty-two! He’s completely unconscious now. If the family doctor hadn’t been here, who knows what would’ve happened..."

"Okay, I’m coming home right now." Cecilia hung up, then immediately called Charles Yin and told him about Miles. Charles said he’d come back right away.

After hanging up, Cecilia turned to Mr. Yun. "Dad, Miles has a fever! We need to go home—now! Please pack up, we’ll leave immediately!"

Mr. Yun nodded quickly in agreement.

Cecilia rushed out like the wind, straight into Hirayama Jiro’s room. She grabbed his collar, shaking with nerves. "Come with me, Miles has a fever! It’s sudden and won’t go down—could it be..."

She couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence.

Hirayama Jiro was caught off guard by Cecilia’s grip, but he looked at her seriously. "We’ll have to check to be sure, but it’s very likely."

A bolt from the blue!

So sudden!

Cecilia felt like her soul was being ripped apart!

Just a few days ago, Count Field had warned her—how could it happen so fast?

"Isn’t there any other way?" Cecilia’s lips trembled, her voice barely coming out.

"Let’s go back and see first." Hirayama Jiro said seriously. "The Yun Family Research Institute has world-class medicine—we can check together. No time to waste, let’s hurry!"

Since Hirayama Jiro said so, Cecilia turned to find Mona Mu.

As soon as Mona Mu heard that Miles was in trouble, she forgot all about her own drama, packed quickly, and waited for Charles Yin. Once he arrived, everyone flew home together.

By evening, they finally made it home.

They’d called ahead, so the Yun Family researchers were already there when they arrived.

Cecilia dashed inside and saw Miles’ face flushed red, lying there in a daze.

Seeing Miles like that, Cecilia’s heart twisted painfully, almost to breaking.

"Miles, Miles... wake up! Look at Mommy, please? Miles, Miles..." Cecilia called desperately, but Miles didn’t move. If not for the sound of his heartbeat, she would’ve thought he was gone.

Hirayama Jiro had changed clothes and immediately drew Miles’ blood with a syringe.

Hirayama Jiro’s research vehicle was moved over, and everyone started their own tests.

The Yun Family researchers exchanged a few words with Hirayama Jiro, then split up to work.

With so many hands, it only took half an hour for the results to come in.

Hirayama Jiro announced with a blank face, "His platelets suddenly dropped massively, causing his immunity to crash. The fever is his body’s emergency response. We found strange trace elements in his blood too. If this keeps up, his organs will overload—within half a year, he’ll develop complications like heart or liver disease."

Cecilia’s hands and feet went ice cold. Her body went limp, and she collapsed against Charles Yin.

Cecilia was shaking all over. "Can the Yun Family secret medicine suppress it now?"

"It can suppress it, but he’s too young. The medicine is too strong and aggressive—he’ll fall into a coma. He won’t die, but he won’t wake up either," said the Yun Family researcher.

Cecilia’s vision went black. Her body gave out, and she fainted.

Miles, my son...

Please, don’t let anything happen to him.

As she lost consciousness, Cecilia thought of that night in Paris, when Miles risked everything to protect her.

In that moment, she was his whole world. He’d risked his life for her.

Miles, Miles...
