The doctor wrapped thick bandages around Leah King's waist, while Rachel Lan was busy drafting a compensation agreement for the Air Police. She then wrote down the address: Special Investigations Division, Public Security Bureau.
"Isn't this a bit much?"
I whispered in her ear.
Rachel Lan smiled warmly at Mason Wang and Ethan Zhang.
"Chief Stone said all expenses for our trip to N City will be reimbursed by the Ghost Burial Squad. Brother Tian will handle the paperwork."
I let out a quiet 'oh,' guilt gnawing at me for what Chief Stone had to endure because of the 'Horror Stories' incident.
Although I knew Rachel Lan could be domineering, I never expected her to be this intense—even toward another woman. Sister Lan always gets things done, no matter who's in her way.
Leah King's waist was tightly bound in thick bandages, and she kept crying out in pain. Her manager was relentless, threatening to sue us over the 'Horror Stories' fiasco.
The plane landed at the airport a little after nine o'clock, and outside, cheers erupted. I saw plenty of Leah King's fans already waiting in the terminal, a huge crowd. Many reporters were also stationed at the arrival gate.
Rachel Lan and I got off the plane first, bypassed the reporters, and entered the terminal. There, we saw a short, yawning figure holding a large sign with our names written on it.
As we approached, the man in the long black coat, which reached his knees, looked somewhat disheveled and weary. But the moment he saw Rachel Lan, his eyes widened in surprise.
"Ah, Sister Lan! Haha, it's been a long time, hasn't it?"
Rachel Lan tried hard to recall something, her brows furrowing in concentration.
"I'm Mason Wang—you forgot? I was a trainee in the last Ghost Burial Squad session. We even went on a mission together. And this must be Ethan Zhang, right? Haha, everyone in the Ghost Burial Squad knows about you."
Rachel Lan seemed to remember now, her eyes lighting up with recognition.
"I remember you were always this height. How come after all these years, you still haven't grown any taller?"
"Oh, Sister Lan, don’t tease me! Haha, I was born with short legs and a long torso—just can't grow taller. Come on, we've already set up a table at Jude Restaurant. A bunch of the guys are eager to see you both!"
I let out a quiet 'oh' and got into the Ghost Burial Squad’s black van in the parking lot, watching as we drove onto the highway.
"Let me drive. You were playing mahjong again last night, weren't you?"
Rachel Lan said this as she took the wheel, while Mason Wang looked apologetic.
