General Evan Shaw Becomes Prince Consort
Claire: "But we’re not Spirit Practitioners, so we can’t go with you to protect you…"
Grace felt a warm rush in her heart and smiled, asking, "Has anyone from home come looking for me?"
"No," she replied. "The Prime Minister’s Estate hasn’t sent anyone."
Grace nodded, taking the tea they offered her. "That’s good. I was worried you’d have a hard time explaining things!"
Just then, Cutie Pie poked his head out from Grace’s pocket and looked around.
Hope and Claire saw him and immediately pointed, excitedly shouting, "Hey! Isn’t that the Antler Serpent with the fuzzy head? Is that Miss Lawrence’s?"
Grace took him out and set him on the table, grinning. "Yep, it’s him! The same one from last time."
"Wow! Where did you find him again?"
"In Eastwood Forest. He’s agreed to be my spirit pet now!" Grace stroked his antlers. "Go get him something to eat!"
"Okay!" The two maids were also fond of him and, seeing him back again, couldn’t hide their excitement.
……
After feeding the spirit pet, Grace asked, "Has Mr. Yuan come back yet?"
She meant Mr. Yuan, who is Bobby’s father.
Claire shook her head. "No news yet."
Hope chimed in, "Oh right, something big happened these past couple of days!"
"What big thing?"
"The Empress Dowager gave Princess Royal to General Evan Shaw," Hope said.
Grace was stunned. "What?"
Even the Antler Serpent suddenly turned its head and stared at Hope.
Oblivious to the tension, Hope gossiped, "General Evan Shaw is now the Prince Consort! I heard Aunt Wan was so furious she smashed everything in her room, then punished Sierra with some random excuse and made her kneel all day. If Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu hadn’t stepped in, Sierra might have lost her child!"
"Are you sure? You mean Evan Xiao—General Evan Shaw?" Grace was focused only on that.
"I’m sure! The imperial decree was issued yesterday," Claire said. "Everyone in town knows."
Grace stood there like a block of wood, completely frozen.
How could this happen?
In her previous life, Princess Olivia wasn’t betrothed to Evan Xiao.
She was supposed to marry Kevin Zhuo…
Suddenly, Grace remembered something, and the teacup in her hand shattered with a loud "crack."
Both Hope and Claire jumped, startled. "Miss Lawrence…" they cried, terrified.
"It’s fine, I’m fine," Grace said, getting up and stumbling into the house.
She’d just remembered: Princess Olivia was originally supposed to marry Kevin Zhuo.
But… Kevin Zhuo… she ruined that match…
When the Empress Dowager chooses a husband for the Princess Royal, she always picks an heir from one of the great families.
Of the Four Great Houses, the only unmarried heir is Kevin Zhuo!
If the Empress Dowager isn’t considering Kevin Zhuo, then… Evan Xiao is the only option left…
Evan Xiao may not come from a great family, but he’s the General of Blue Moon Kingdom!
Aside from Kevin Zhuo, he’s the best choice.
And it’s all because of her.
But that’s not the real issue.
The real issue is… did he rush to escort Princess Olivia back because he realized she’s his true wife, and Grace Lawrence means nothing to him?
So when Sophie Sun tried to kill her and her life was hanging by a thread, he just abandoned her…
She went back to her room and sat there, dazed.
Evan Xiao followed her to the door, saw her like that, and quietly turned away.
A moment later, someone suddenly pushed open Grace’s back window.
