Black-Hearted, Neither Father nor Son Is Any Good
Playing the pig to eat the tiger!
The Master of Mystic Healer Valley inwardly scoffed at Ninth Royal Uncle Nolan. Clearly, it was Nolan himself who wanted to infiltrate the Demon Sect, yet he kept using Serena Feng as an excuse, always putting on the act of loving beauty even more than power, making others unconsciously lower their guard. And then—
He would deliver a ruthless blow.
Ninth Royal Uncle really was too cunning!
No matter how much the Master of Mystic Healer Valley disdained Ninth Royal Uncle's theatrics, he didn't show it on his face. Outwardly, he simply did everything a doctor ought to do.
Rowan Bloom led Ninth Royal Uncle Nolan, Serena, and their party through the forest for most of the day. Only near dusk did he bring them to a row of stone huts.
"Ninth Royal Uncle, this is where my Holy Sect entertains honored guests. Please, come inside. I’ll send attendants shortly to serve you—if you have any requests, just tell them, and I’ll do my best to accommodate." As soon as he finished speaking, Rowan Bloom whistled, and his flock of crows swooped down again, carrying both him and Zed away.
The crows flapped away, disturbing unseen flowers in the forest and releasing a faint floral fragrance into the air.
Serena glanced around and saw no flowers within her field of vision. They hadn't passed any flowerbeds on the way, either. Her expression changed instantly and she shouted, "Everyone, hold your breath!"
"What’s wrong?" Ninth Royal Uncle immediately held his breath and looked at her, questioning with his eyes.
"This floral scent seems poisonous." Serena Feng wasn't being paranoid. There hadn't been any floral fragrance before, but when the flock of crows stirred up the air, a faint scent appeared. Serena couldn't help but suspect it was an airborne toxin.
The Master of Mystic Healer Valley immediately grew serious, sniffed the air, and then nodded to Nolan Dongling.
He indicated that the scent brought by the crows was indeed unusual.
"Sect Master Rowan Bloom is certainly cautious," Nolan Dongling said with a cold smile. "Let’s head inside before we discuss further."
Everyone quickly nodded—even Doudou put away his playful grin.
Inside the Demon Sect’s sanctuary, every step had to be taken with extreme caution. If anything went wrong, they’d all be finished here.
The stone huts were bare except for a stone bed. Nolan Dongling had the dark guards share a room with the Valley Master, Doudou with his master, and Serena with himself.
"Go back to your rooms first. Valley Master, check everyone for poisoning and start working on an antidote. Even if no one shows symptoms, make preventive pills." These minor toxins were nothing to Nolan, but for others, they could be deadly.
The Valley Master agreed, his face grave as he returned to his room.
Airborne toxins were difficult to counter unless someone actually showed symptoms; otherwise, finding a cure was nearly impossible.
