Chill Invades the Body
The weather was getting colder and colder. Ever since she fell into the river, Lily Evans had developed a sensitivity to cold. The doctor said she was already frail, and now with the evil chill invading her body, she'd need at least a year of careful recuperation.
For the next year, she absolutely couldn't catch a chill, and pregnancy was out of the question. Otherwise, any child she bore could easily be sickly or even die young. Lily sighed. She'd never really figured out if she wanted to have a child with Lucky, but now that she finally did, fate had to play a trick on her—she'd need a whole year of recovery before she could even think about it.
Ancient birth control methods were terrible. Sure, there was something called 'avoidance soup,' but Lily already had an evil chill in her body, and that soup was cold-natured. Drinking it would only make things worse. Since pregnancy was off the table and there were no reliable birth control options, Lily figured she’d just have to wait a year before sharing a bed with Lucky. Thankfully, Lucky was simple-minded—she could just coax him and it’d be fine.
"Wife?" Lily was lost in thought when a handsome face suddenly appeared right in front of her.
"Lucky, how do you feel today? Does anything still hurt?" Lily pinched Lucky’s cheek—his skin was so soft and smooth!
Lucky let out a howl and threw himself at her, complaining about pain here and there, demanding hugs and kisses, clinging to Lily like a koala.
Lily helplessly ruffled his hair. Ever since his fever broke, Lucky had become even clingier. The two of them were always lying in bed recovering, and Lucky practically wanted to stick to her twenty-four seven. Even when Lily went to take a bath, he insisted on following her. It always took a mix of coaxing and shooing to get him out of the bathroom.
"Madam, Mr. Lawrence is here," Belle called from outside the door.
"Ask him to wait in the hall. I’ll be right there," Lily replied.
Lucky immediately grew wary. "Wife, do you really have to go see him?"
