Morgan Shangguan rubbed her cheek against his shoulder and said softly, "I, as your Princess Consort, have no time or interest to be angry with you!" Although he always managed to irritate her, she truly wasn't angry. If she were, she would never forgive him just because he acted pitiful or pretended to be heartbroken!
Damien Gray smiled, gently stroking her hair, and said in a tender voice, "Rest for a while. I'll call you later."
Morgan truly felt a bit tired. She nodded, closed her eyes, and soon drifted off to sleep.
Damien Gray gently brushed the hair from her forehead. His eyes were filled with tenderness and affection as he sighed softly, "How could a kingdom ever be as tempting as my Princess Consort?"
A trace of a smile flickered in his eyes. If she were no longer in this world, then the kingdom would be nothing but a lifeless thing! Now that the most precious treasure in the world was already in his arms, why should he waste any more effort fighting for something so insignificant to him?
When Morgan Shangguan woke up, dusk had already fallen. She glanced at Damien Gray, frowned, and asked, "Why didn't you wake me?"
Damien Gray kissed her cheek and smiled, "It's fine if we're a little late!"
After helping her dress, Damien Gray had someone bring dinner into the room. Morgan Shangguan raised her eyebrows in surprise. Damien pulled her into his arms and said, "The banquet will be a bit chaotic. Eat something first—you must be hungry, right?" His smile was tinged with playful ambiguity.
Morgan Shangguan shot him a glance and said coolly, "Is it time to talk now?"
"You really want to know that badly, Princess Consort?"
Morgan Shangguan said nothing, so Damien Gray spoke up on his own, "It's really nothing serious! Crown Prince Adrian just bought some medicine from the Ghost Guild, that's all!" It was exactly what Jing Moke had personally delivered back then.
Morgan paused, "He didn't hire an assassin?"
"No, he didn't."
Morgan Shangguan nodded. Crown Prince Adrian was probably worried that the Ghost Guild wouldn't dare take the job, and that it would leave evidence in their hands.
She didn't ask Damien Gray any further about his plans. Connecting all the events together, she could already guess most of his intentions!
Morgan glanced at Damien Gray, then suddenly smiled and rewarded him with a piece of tofu. Damien looked at the soft, white tofu and pulled a face. "Mo'er..."
Before he could say more, Morgan Shangguan stuffed the tofu into his mouth. As Damien Gray ate the tofu he hated most, he grumbled, "Who made this tofu? I must teach them a lesson!" Everyone in the kitchen knew he disliked tofu, so how did it end up here?
Morgan propped her chin on her hand, watching his exaggerated look of misery. She smiled and leaned over to kiss his cheek, her face full of delight. Clearly, the chaos expected at the banquet wasn't affecting her mood at all.
At that moment, Susie Yun's voice interrupted, "Does His Highness not like tofu either?" Her tone was clearly surprised and a bit apologetic.
It was obvious she was the culprit!
Because Morgan Shangguan didn't like tofu, it had never appeared on the table. She hadn't expected that Damien Gray hated tofu just as much!
"I thought His Highness would like it!" Susie Yun sighed regretfully, "There was so much tofu, but since no one ate it, I had to throw it all away!"
Morgan Shangguan asked casually, "Where did all that tofu come from?"
At her words, Susie Yun glared at Ryan Ouyang and complained, "Isn't it because of Ryan? He accidentally broke someone's tofu and made me take the blame! It was a small business, and with the tofu ruined, they couldn't sell it, so I had to buy it all!"
Ryan Ouyang muttered from the side, "Even if you told them I broke it, no one would believe you!" How could anyone believe he had run into a ghost?
Susie Yun glared at him fiercely. Ryan Ouyang rubbed his nose and quickly hugged her to comfort her.
Suddenly, Damien Gray spoke, "Mo'er, do you plan to keep me in the dark forever?" He glanced in Ryan Ouyang's direction as he spoke.
Morgan paused, suddenly realizing that Damien Gray couldn't see Ryan Ouyang. It wasn't her fault for forgetting—after all, even though Damien couldn't see Ryan, he could sense his presence and had never shown any curiosity. That's why she hadn't paid attention to the issue.
With a flick of her finger, a droplet like water landed on Ryan Ouyang's forehead and instantly disappeared. In the next moment, Damien Gray could see him.
Damien Gray only glanced at him before looking away. He felt reassured about Ryan Ouyang because Susie Yun was there.
After finishing dinner, the two of them strolled into the palace. Morgan Shangguan didn't bring Susie Yun or Ryan Ouyang along—the scene was too chaotic, and having more people would only make things harder.
Damien Gray, however, brought Ethan Gu and Maxwell Jing, just in case their help was needed.
The banquet was held in the Imperial Garden once again, even livelier than the previous cleansing feast. On days like this, everyone was less restrained, and the young men and women who came with their parents gathered in small groups, laughter and chatter filling the air.
After getting off the carriage, Damien Gray wrapped his arm around Morgan Shangguan and walked toward the Imperial Garden. Ethan Gu and Maxwell Jing followed behind them. Maxwell Jing kept a close watch on their surroundings, scanning the patrolling guards in the distance, the palace maids and eunuchs, and the dancers on stage. These people were easy to disguise; it was hard to tell who was who. Crown Prince Adrian had surely sneaked many of his own people in.
Suddenly, Ethan Gu remembered something, grabbed Maxwell Jing, and handed him a pill, whispering, "Take this and you'll be immune to all poisons for two hours!" Crown Prince Adrian had bought such poison from the Ghost Guild to target Emperor Alexander, but who could guarantee there wouldn't be collateral damage? And who knew if there were other toxins?
It wasn't that he forgot to care about Damien Gray and Morgan Shangguan—Damien would ask for whatever he needed, and if he didn't say anything, it meant he didn't need help. As for Morgan, that was Damien's concern. If Ethan Gu took on that responsibility, Damien would probably hold it against him!
Maxwell Jing grinned, "Thanks!" and swallowed the pill.
Morgan overheard their conversation and happened to see Maxwell Jing put away the pill. Her eyes flashed, and she glanced at the two men before turning to Damien Gray, "Your Highness, am I out of favor now?"
