Where Is Your Husband Lucky
Over a hundred acres of farmland—building mushroom houses and setting up greenhouses takes manpower.
Lily Evans hired villagers to build mudbrick houses on the dry land, which would later be used for mushroom cultivation.
The villagers had expected a tough winter because of the bad harvest, but who could have guessed Lily Evans would have more work for them? Everyone was thrilled.
Even the village chief said with relief, "After the flood, Lily's family helped us rebuild once, and now again. They've helped our village through two tough times. That girl, she's truly capable!"
Villagers were once envious of Lily Evans for making a fortune buying property, but now that she's given them work, their simple hearts are content. With wages in their pockets, everyone happily says it's thanks to Lily's good fortune that they'll have money for a proper New Year.
Rows and rows of mushroom houses were being built in a lively rush, but Lily Evans knew it was nowhere near enough.
The villagers were all small-scale farmers. Lily Evans had no intention of sharing her mushroom-growing and greenhouse vegetable techniques just yet. She wasn't foolishly generous, nor was she stingy or forgetful—her plan was to wait until her business was big enough and she no longer relied on mushroom or greenhouse vegetable profits. Only then would she share the techniques, so everyone could prosper together.
But for now, she had to keep her methods close—her family's prosperity came first.
The most reliable solution was to buy bonded servants.
With the servant deeds in hand, the master had full control—whether to discipline, sell, or even punish. There was no fear of disobedience.
Lily Evans estimated that for 150 acres of land, at least fifty people would be needed to manage it.
Lily Evans had no experience in buying servants, so she entrusted the task to Leonard Li.
Uncle Arthur was delighted to help when his niece needed him. He said, 'Lily, don't be polite with your fourth uncle. If you need help, just ask. I'll write to the steward right away and have him find reliable people.'
'Great! Thank you, Uncle Arthur!' Lily Evans grinned and thanked Leonard Li, then personally cooked a delicious meal to show her appreciation.
The mushroom houses were quickly finished, and the greenhouses were set up. Once the new hires were trained, Lily Evans's modern farm could begin operations. She was looking forward to it.
Leonard Li soon heard the news and sent word that he wanted to bring a friend over for lunch.
'Come on in, I've got hot tea and snacks ready, and lunch will be served soon.' Lily Evans welcomed them inside with a smile.
Leonard Li supported Shane Shen, glanced at him, and then said to Lily Evans, 'Lily, where's your husband Lucky? Invite him out to have a few drinks with us.'
Leonard Li arrived before noon, riding in a rather modest carriage—not flashy at all.
'Lily, what delicious food are you making today?' Leonard Li immediately put on a greedy look.
'There's plenty of delicious food! Next month I'll be selling the menu to Fragrant Pavilion, but I'll make you a special portion ahead of time!' Lily Evans was generous.
Leonard Li's eyes lit up. 'Haha, great! Looks like I'm in for a treat today!' Then he kicked the carriage and called out, 'We're here, get out!'
Shane Shen stumbled out of the carriage, looking pale. Lily Evans couldn't help but laugh—this young nobleman actually gets carriage-sick!
Shane Shen was so sick his legs went weak. He managed a greeting to Lily Evans, 'Mrs. Lily, I solved the riddle you left me last time, hmph!'
'Young Master Shen is so clever, that riddle surely couldn't stump you,' Lily Evans said with a smile.
Shane Shen's face turned pale. He would never tell her it took him nearly a month to solve it—being stumped by a young lady for a whole month was embarrassing!
