The Storm Approaches

1/4/2026

No kidding.

Half a year ago, this cave was barely over a hundred square meters.

Thanks to the relentless efforts of a group of people, the cave has now been expanded to its current size.

It’s a good thing they did, or else there wouldn’t have been enough space to hide so much stuff.

Cherry Miller and her team intercepted the Zhang Family’s stash of food and hid it all here.

No one in Six Saints Town noticed when so many people—and so many strange machines—started showing up here.

Some of the residents chose to trust Mayor Derek Lee and brought their families to the base to escape the coming disaster.

But even more people stayed home, skeptical and refusing to leave.

At first, a few village chiefs were pretty passive too, not really trying to convince the villagers to leave.

But by evening, the water levels in several rivers had all broken past the warning line. Floodwaters, mixed with rain, rushed into the fields—and even into the villages—causing backflow.

In less than half an hour, the water level had already reached their calves.

It was only then that the village chiefs realized how serious things were. That little girl hadn’t been exaggerating—the flood was real!

"Oh no! Oh no! Liu Sanniu’s house has been destroyed by the flood! Somebody help!" A piercing cry echoed from afar.

"Oh my god! My house! My things!" A woman collapsed on the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. "Without a home, how am I supposed to live now?"

"Aunt Liu, stop crying—your son and grandson are still inside!" someone reminded her.

Aunt Liu sprang up from the ground and rushed inside without hesitation. "Help! Somebody help!" she yelled.

A lot of people from the village ran over to help.

Luckily, the houses in the village were made of mud bricks. They couldn’t withstand the rain, but at least when they collapsed, they didn’t cause as much harm as concrete structures would have.

In just a short while, the villagers managed to dig out the people buried in the house, all working together.

Aunt Liu’s little grandson burst into tears. His breathing was weak, but at least his life wasn’t in danger.

"Oh no! Oh no! The house at Liu Fugui’s place has collapsed too! Somebody help!" another voice shouted from afar.

The villagers didn’t even have time to change into dry clothes—they just turned around and started digging people out again.

That night, many families in the village lost their homes to the flood.

It wasn’t just Liu Village—several other villages were hit just as hard.

The village chiefs realized they couldn’t keep going like this.

If they weren’t careful, everyone might really lose their lives here.

So the village chiefs started going door-to-door, persuading people to move to higher ground for safety.

Some families were convinced and quickly packed up their valuables to evacuate.

But the older folks shook their heads. They said they’d lived long enough and didn’t want to go through all that trouble.

"What are you waiting for?" The chief of Wang Village wiped the rain from his face and said, "We already lost half our homes to disaster a few days ago. Now this rain’s been going for so long, we could lose the rest. Even if you don’t care about yourselves, can’t you think of your children? If you stay, will your kids stay too? If they leave, you’ll call them unfilial; if they stay, they’re waiting to die. Most of the people in Liford Village have already moved out! Did they leave anything behind? Are you the only ones with something to protect? I’m telling you now, you have two hours to decide. If you want to leave, come with me. If you don’t, you’re on your own!"

After saying that, the chief of Wang Village turned to shout at the others, "If you’re leaving, hurry home and pack up! Follow me up the mountain! If you’re staying, hide well—don’t get swept away by the flood!"

Then the chief hurried home, called for his wife and kids, quickly packed the essentials, and rushed toward the place Cherry Miller had mentioned.

The night was deep.

Dark clouds pressed overhead.

Cherry Miller looked up at the sky and couldn’t help but sigh.

"Cherry, here’s the latest satellite cloud map." Yina Yin handed her a chart with a serious look. "Six Saints Town is about to face the biggest storm in sixty years. The underground river is impassable now. We’re all trapped."

Cherry Miller’s expression grew serious as she took the chart, glanced at it, and sighed with Yina Yin. "How’s your side coming along?"

"We’ve got some medicine ready, but it’s barely a drop in the bucket," Yina Yin replied. "Cherry, do you think we’ll fail this time? If the mountain flood hits, even if we survive, we’ll be stranded here waiting for rescue!"

Cherry Miller squeezed Yina Yin’s hand to encourage her. "Absolutely not. We’ve never given up on any possibility. Yina, this is the best chance for you to prove yourself! Some people still think you only got on the board because you’re a Yin Family heiress. They haven’t seen your real abilities, but they’re quick to judge. This is the perfect time to shut them up. If we pull off the GF-112 Project, it’ll be the brightest entry on both our résumés. So don’t even think about giving up!"

Yina Yin smiled. "I know."

"Yina, prove it to them! We women are just as capable as any man!" Cherry Miller said, her tone firm.

"Got it!" Yina Yin nodded vigorously.

"Yina, Cherry!" Ryan King rushed in wearing a raincoat. "Both water channels have been checked and repaired. If there’s a mudslide, it won’t reach our cave. I’ve set explosives at the designated spot—if anything goes wrong, we’ll seal the entrance and wait for rescue."

"Thanks, Ryan." Cherry Miller nodded at him.

Mr. Fang hurried over and said quickly, "Miss Yin, Assistant Miller, we don’t have enough medicine, and there’s no time to buy more."

Yina Yin responded immediately, "We brought some medicine when we first arrived. Come with me—I remember where it’s hidden."

With that, Yina Yin led Mr. Fang off to search for the supplies.

The cave had a fresh air circulation system, so even inside, it never felt stuffy.

Derek Lee from Liford Village looked around curiously, feeling like he couldn’t take in enough with his eyes.

The area where they rested was marked out with white chalk squares on the ground.

Each square housed a family.

Those who brought their own bedding used it, and those without got a cotton mat to keep out the chill from the ground.

Some people handed out food, others distributed drinking water, and some registered the population—it was all very orderly.

From a distance, Derek Lee saw the Gu Family Cook—wait, no, it was actually a girl—helping move supplies. He couldn’t resist and quietly walked over, just in time to see Yina Yin carrying boxes, so he hurried over to lend a hand.

"Thank you," Yina Yin said to Derek Lee with a smile.

Derek Lee blushed and stammered, "No need to thank me. Really, we should be thanking you. Why are you helping us so much? For every one of us who survives, it costs you more money. You could have just left us—if we died, so be it."

Yina Yin straightened up, looked at Derek Lee, and said, "Derek, you’ve got it wrong. Every life is precious—whether from the outside world or Six Saints Town. The Yin Family has never been careless with human life."

Yina Yin sat down on a wooden box and patted the spot beside her. "Want to sit and talk?"

"Okay." Derek Lee sat down shyly next to her.

It wasn’t until today that Derek Lee realized the Gu Family Cook from Liford Village was actually a girl.

He regretted not noticing before, and all the nonsense he’d said to her in the past.

"Do you know why the Yin Family has stood strong for centuries?" Yina Yin asked with a smile.

Derek Lee shook his head.

"It’s because the Yin Family has never been careless with human life. As the old saying goes, ‘Water can carry a boat, but it can also overturn it.’ We may not be emperors, but in business, the Yin Family is king. Success isn’t just about being powerful—it’s about putting people first, seizing every opportunity, and protecting every client. What you described has happened elsewhere, but never with us. This is a perfect chance to show what the Yin Family stands for, and it won’t come again." Yina Yin knew this was the best moment to earn goodwill for the Yin Family.

So Yina Yin simply started chatting with Derek Lee.

She knew plenty of people nearby were eavesdropping.

"In the outside world, we have situations like yours too. We call it relocation—your land and homes are requisitioned, and you’re compensated with money or new housing. Some people get rich overnight from relocation, going from poor to wealthy in a flash. So the money, houses, and land are all what you deserve. Yin Enterprises can afford it and won’t play tricks. To be honest, the total compensation for all Six Saints Town residents is about 1.2 billion. That’s a lot, but not too much for us. Human life is worth more than money. As long as you’re alive, anything is possible. Once the money’s gone, there’s nothing left. People come first."

Derek Lee didn’t fully understand, but he kept listening anyway.

Before long, a small crowd had gathered, all listening to Yina Yin.

"Is it true that in the outside world, there’s money everywhere? That you can just bend down and have enough to eat and wear?" someone asked.
