At first, I stared in surprise, wondering why Evan Zhao had suddenly acted this way. Then I realized—it was Basil Bertram, dressed in an oversized leather jacket, jeans, a hat, a pink scarf, and large sunglasses.
"Ethan, I came to hang out with you."
As soon as he entered, Basil Bertram floated over to me. I gasped. Basil wore a wide grin, grabbing my arm as if he wanted to tell me something. I just nodded and followed him.
"Move aside, I need to talk to Ethan." Julian Chu was still tending the flowers between Yin Chou, then floated away with a bucket in hand.
Seeing Basil Bertram looking so mysterious, I couldn’t help but ask.
"What’s going on?"
"Ah, it’s nothing serious. Ethan, could you do me a favor?"
"Just say it."
Basil Bertram glanced around, putting on a fierce expression. He stared behind me. Turning, I saw that many ghosts in the courtyard had gathered nearby. They looked relaxed, but they were clearly trying to eavesdrop.
"Ethan, if there’s anything fun, take me with you." Rose Harper smiled, floated over, and grabbed my arm.
"Come on, Ethan, let's talk outside. You all, stay here and don't follow us."
In the end, the ghosts in the courtyard watched helplessly as Basil Bertram and I walked out. Once outside, Basil automatically got into the Mercedes. I drove us to a bustling street, found a teahouse, and sat down to order a pot of tea.
Basil Bertram held his cup with both hands, looking awkward and shy. I stared at him in surprise.
"Just spit it out. Damn it, if there's something, say it."
"Well, Ethan, could I trouble you to help me save someone?"
I took a sip of tea and nearly spat it out. I blinked at Basil Bertram. He's a ghost sovereign, after all—why would he need me to save someone? He commands as many Blue Wraiths as Redmond does, and any one of them is far stronger than I am.
"I'm not in a position to do it myself, Ethan. Please, help me out."
I nodded, and only then did Basil Bertram begin to explain.
"Sigh... Miss Leah King has gone missing. Last night, she disappeared from the set during filming. She was probably taken by a ghost, but she's still alive. Could you help me rescue her?"
My heart skipped a beat. Leah King—isn't she that temperamental actress from the airplane incident last time?
