Job Application

12/19/2025

As night had already fallen, Joe Di found a random inn to get through the evening. Early the next morning, he woke up, ready to plan the path for his future.

From the moment he left Jay Family Village, Joe Di never intended to return. Now, walking on the streets of Jinhai, he looked up at the vast sky, a strange thought rising in his heart—he belonged to the sky, to the boundless stars beyond.

Shaking his head, Joe Di withdrew his gaze, watching the people coming and going on the street. His heart suddenly grew calm.

Since he had arrived in Jinhai, he would first establish himself here, then find a way to reach Tianhuang District. Perhaps that was the place he truly belonged.

A piercing ambulance siren made Joe Di instinctively step aside, and the ambulance sped past.

"Another one rescued from Tianhuang District. I heard something big happened there recently—lots of deaths, even more injured. All the hospitals in Tianhuang City are full, so they have to send people to other cities." Someone beside Joe Di murmured.

Joe Di was intrigued and quickly asked, "Excuse me, are all the patients in that ambulance martial artists from Tianhuang District?"

The middle-aged man who spoke glanced at Joe Di and chuckled, "Of course, they're all from Tianhuang District. But they're just injured, not really patients. Even wounded martial artists from Tianhuang District aren't people we can get close to."

Martial artists from Tianhuang District, after being injured, were brought to Jinhai by ambulance?

Joe Di hurriedly asked again, "Which hospital are these people going to?"

"Of course, Jinhai Hospital. What other hospital would be qualified to treat martial artists from Tianhuang District?" the middle-aged man said, leaving no room for doubt.

Hearing this, Joe Di made up his mind to go to Jinhai Hospital. Here, he could meet martial artists from Tianhuang District. He faintly sensed a connection between himself and these warriors.

Joe Di believed that, relying on his own abilities, he should be able to enter Jinhai Hospital without needing help from Paul Pang.

His talent was innate. If not for Dr. Barry Dee insisting that staying in Jay Family Village would lead nowhere and forcing him to take the college entrance exam, he wouldn't have bothered with it at all. As for why he never passed, it wasn't because he was dull, but because he felt the serene mountains and rivers of Jay Family Village were better suited to thinking.

Since childhood, there was something extremely important he couldn't remember. Deep inside, a voice kept calling to him—he had to figure out this matter, or he would have no future.

So, ever since he could remember, he'd been searching for answers. Unfortunately, whenever he got close, his memory would blur. The only thing he gained over the years was the jade pendant on his chest. According to his adoptive father, Dr. Barry Dee, it had always been with him.

After Dr. Barry Dee passed away, even if Paul Pang hadn't come to Jay Family Village to invite him, Joe Di would have left on his own after some time.

......

Jinhai Hospital was so famous that Joe Di didn't even need to ask anyone; he simply boarded a bus and arrived directly at Jinhai Hospital.

As soon as he reached Jinhai Hospital, Joe Di was stunned by the crowds at the entrance—it was even busier than the liveliest convention. People came and went, each with a heavy and worried expression. The middle-aged man hadn't been exaggerating; all the ambulances entered Jinhai Hospital and drove deep inside.

Joe Di had originally planned to enter the hospital and ask when they were hiring and where to apply. Just as he reached the entrance, he saw a modest sign. On it was written: "Applicants for interviews, please proceed to Building 17, Room 309. Time: Today from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m."

Without hesitation, Joe Di followed the directions to Building 17 and arrived at Room 309.

Seeing Joe Di arrive at the door with a cloth bag on his back, a woman in a white lab coat at the entrance to Room 309 asked, "Are you here for the interview?"

Joe Di nodded, "Yes, I'm here for the interview."

"Please register and then go inside to queue up," the woman said with a smile.

Joe Di glanced at the registration form, wrote down his name, and entered the room. The room was spacious, and several people were already seated outside. Joe Di quietly took a seat at the back.

"What position are you applying for? I'm here for anesthesiology," a tall, thin man with glasses quietly asked the man in front of him.

The man smiled, "No conflict there. I'm applying for orthopedics."

......

From the surrounding chatter, Joe Di finally pieced together that these people had all come after receiving a phone call. Strictly speaking, they were here for a second interview, while he hadn't even prepared any application materials and had just slipped in. Apparently, the girl at the door hadn't checked the names of the interviewees—likely no one expected anyone to sneak into a place like this, which allowed him to blend in unnoticed.

One by one, people went in and came out, while Joe Di waited patiently, thinking about what he should say once inside. Since he had no records, he needed a good explanation—ideally, he could prove himself on the spot.

The interviews moved quickly. In just an hour, only four people were left ahead of Joe Di.

Just as Joe Di was estimating when his turn would come, a man with a gloomy expression emerged from the interview room. He glanced over the group and said irritably, "Due to an unexpected situation, today's interviews end here. Those who haven't been interviewed, please come back tomorrow."

He had been set up—assigned to treat someone who was poisoned.

Joe Di and the other four looked at each other in dismay. They'd waited all morning only to hear this; no one could be pleased. But since this man was the interviewer, none dared complain.

Joe Di cursed his bad luck—clearly, he'd have to think of another way. Whether he'd even be able to get a seat here tomorrow was uncertain.

Just as the gloomy man reached the door, he suddenly turned and said to the five of them, "A batch of poisoned martial artists from Tianhuang District just arrived. The hospital doesn't have enough doctors, and I have to perform surgery. If any of you have experience with poisoning, you can come with me. But let me be clear—if you don't know about poisoning, don't come, or you'll bear the consequences yourself."

None of the four ahead of Joe Di dared step forward. As doctors, they all knew how hard it was to save someone poisoned in Tianhuang District. Out of ten, one or two surviving would already be considered lucky. They had come to apply for a job, not to jump into such trouble right away.

The families of these Tianhuang District martial artists were notoriously difficult. If you failed to save them, you'd be in for trouble. That's why so many doctors were unwilling to take on poisoned cases.

While the others hesitated, Joe Di had no such qualms. He stood up and said, "I have deep expertise in treating poisoning—my success rate is over eighty percent."

"You?" The gloomy man frowned, sizing Joe Di up. Joe Di looked like a fresh college graduate—such a young man claiming deep expertise and an eighty percent success rate? That was laughable.

Eighty percent? Worldwide, the odds of curing a poisoned martial artist from Tianhuang District were barely over thirty percent—that was the mark of a top doctor. Eighty percent? Was this guy crazy or just dreaming?

Still, the doctor quickly swallowed his rebuke, gave a sly smile, and said to Joe Di, "If that's the case, come with me. If you can save someone, you'll be hired at Jinhai Hospital on the spot."

(That's all for today's update. Good night, friends!)
